Any idea about this speaker?

Hi all,

so i got this one bass cab and it had some old speakers that i kinda want to just replace. Anyways, Its a sunn 215s and i guess one of the 15s is a black widow, and i don't know what the second one is...any ideas on at least a maker?

there is a stamp on the back with some numbers
"810010
6/(faded out)/229"

any ideas?

CTS was big on the square magnet...but I 'don't recall seeing one with that silver dustcap. Throw a matched pair of something decent in that cab and you're set.
It still could be CTS, or Utah, or one of a half dozen other vendors of the late '60s early '70s. Big magnet yes, but a small voice coil and short excursion, so nothing with any real value.

thanks guys

my big goal is once i figure out who makes it, maybe i could figure out the specs to find a decent replacement--the cab is pretty solidly built and it seems like maybe i could find some similar speakers new to go in there to make a nice 215

Chances are whoever made that driver is long out of business, and the cab pre-dates modern driver/cabinet design theory as well, so what might work well in it is a total crapshoot.

Everybody has their own opinion and experience, but, I have a '68 Kustom 2-15 with the original CTS speakers. It's a great sounding cab when combined with a good head with good EQ. For example, I paired it up with a Sunn Coliseum and it was thumpin' with several combos of EQ from big bottom to classic rock.

that's pretty useless!
u need the cab interior dimensions to replace the drivers, not the specs of the old drivers.

I just listened to your YouTube band recordings. Good job. I love various classic rock and liked listening to the band. Was this a performance recording or studio? What rig did you use?

Hey thanks! It was a garage recording with my old ADAT XT. I was using my G-K 800rb with 215 and Fender Jazz MIM 5 string with SD pups and RotoSound SwingBass strings. Mackie 1604 VLZ and a Mircroverb III.

That was about 2 1/2 years ago, we really need to get some newer stuff up but the Bass player is the engineer?
