Any idea what's up with Ed Friedland?

I used to really like watching his Bass Whisperer reviews and videos (in fact, his Carvin PB5 was what cemented my desire to pull the trigger on a Carvin), but I haven't seen any updates on his YouTube channel in quite a while. Any idea what he's up to?

Hey! I'm still here! Yes, I'm pretty busy these days playing bass for the Mavericks, so I gave up the BW thing for now. I'm on the road most of the time now playing strictly upright bass, but I have continued my column in Bass Player called R&B Gold. Hope you check it out, I think it's some of my best writing to date.

I cut out most gear reviewing as well, though I did just finish a cover story Mini Amp Roundup for the September issue. Probably won't be doing much of that in the future.

I've also stopped teaching at home and online for now. I'm enjoying the selfish luxury of simply playing bass for one of the great American bands of our time. Think I'm exaggerating? Check them out!

So, thanks for the inquiry... I've got enough books and columns out to keep you busy, and there are plenty of new gear dudes out there, so you should still be able to find someone to ask "What's the best bass for metal?" I'll try to pop in to TB more often... I need to find other things to surf besides politics! Thanks!

Ed, glad to hear you're doing well.

As a fan of the B|Amp, I'm definitely looking forward to your comments in the upcoming BP.

I always felt that Raul was one of the most exciting singers in popular music. Hope to see you guys on this tour.

"Best writing to date," you say. Dear Mr. Friedland, I consider your book "Bass Grooves" one of the finest works of literature ever published. The most educational, inspirational, and funny instruction book I have ever laid my hands on!
It's been sitting in my bathroom for nearly a decade now, and I take it with me on public transportation all the time...I could quote entire sections of it verbatim. :hyper:

Sounds like a public health concern!

Thanks! Hmm... You got me thinking. I couldn't make a fortune actually DOING gear reviews, but maybe I could by teaching OTHER people how not to make a fortune! It could work...

lol!! I've bought a lot of gear based on your reviews I really appreciate it because I live in a area that doesn't have any decent music stores so I'm usually buying sight unseen.
