It would be interesting to get a better look at it ... headstock, tuners, under the PG with what looks like no screws on it, back of the body to see if its plywood, etc, etc ...
just an idea, but if you know the guy, or if he is local to you, tell him you will help him fix it up, set it up, etc ... you will even supply the strings (bring a set of old take offs not worth anything) ... all you are out is your time playing with it, and if you like it, you can have it for $50 and if you dont like it, he can keep the strings ... that way you get to try, and have first shot if it is decent, and if not, you are not out anything ... win-win for both ... you wont know anything about it, unless you can play and hear it, even with junk strings ... just a thought and it will completely satisfy your curiosity ... it looks better than a Tiesco or Kingston from what I have seen, it MAY just be decent, even if you have to dial the bridge pup way down/off ... JMHO
