Anyone, or any lawyers on here , that may know, if you get something sent to you from e-bay, but it wasn't what you bought, and it's worth ten times the price of what you bought, do you need to send it back, or can you keep it??
Wouldn't that depend on whether the seller meant to send it to you or not? Was it just described wrong, or did they send you something completely different to what you paid for? If it was something totally different, ever think that someone else could have paid for the item you got and is out of pocket a lot of money?
The problem is if your seller sold two items and mixed up the addresses. The guy who got the $100 bass instead of the $1000 bass (Or whatever the item is) will dispute, the seller will go to you, and you don't want to have to say, "Uh, I sold it."
If you are a scumbag lowlife loser, keep it. If not, do the right thing. Contact the seller and return it.
In these tough times, I would not be so quick to call names. We gotta get by. That said, I agree with the person who noted that the seller might have just mixed up two addresses, in which case they'll be contacting you soon, and you don't want to be caught empty handed.
Give it back. How would you like it if you had a bad day and accidentally sent the wrong package. Now he got screwed out of 900 bucks.
How someone responds to think kind of thing is real telling to the kind of person you are. "We gotta get by"?! What kind of crap is that? This isn't - or at least does not sound like - a case of someone just selling something for less than it's worth. When you put something up on eBay it's fair game. Don't list it properly? Well, this is what can happen and it's not the buyers fault. However, when someone obviously makes a mistake and sends you something you did not pay for - and you keep it? That's dishonest and in my house you'd be a thief. Ever had something stolen? It sucks. If you're the kind of person who would do that, well you suck too.
2 different things here - was it a. got the wrong thing? or b. seller did not know the value of what he sold? a. Return it. Item was probably meant for someone else. b. keep it. You don't go into a garage sale with a 63 jazz for $100 and tell them it's worth 5k, you just buy it.
The seller was a Pawn Shop! Any of you ever been screwed by a pawn shop?? Anyone who ever sold anything to a pawn shop has been screwed! Now what do you guys think?? Should I send it back or not??
Yes. How are people been screwed selling to a pawn shop? The pawn shop is still just someone running a business covering their costs, and most I see aren't rolling in money. Unless it was something like cash converters, they screw both sellers and buyers.
1st. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/faq.php?faq=forum_rules#faq_new_faq_item 2nd. I've got bongo's back any day of the week. I don't believe for a second that no one on this forum has wanted to or thought about taking advantage of an opportunity to make a quick buck. I concede that 99.9% of us would do the right thing and I'm pretty certain that the OP will do the right thing as well.
If the seller sent you something worth ten times less than what you paid for, would you contact them? Honesty is not a two way street.
Pawn shops are probably near the bottom of eBay sellers deserving mercy, but it's still not cool. I would let them know what happened and it's their responsibility to fix it. I give respect where it's due. If you're offended by my comments, I'm sorry, but I am offended by dishonesty and call em like I see em.
