Any left handed players out there?

Hey dudes and dudesses!

I'm a "lefty" or left-handed player...... I was wondering, if there are a few more of "us" out and about.

And how you find your basses (do you need to settle for a poorly made bass, or .......)...

I have had my "lets make a left-handed bass in under 5min" basses, or had to do a lot of "custom" work on "regular" bases to get them to even feel good (to me)...

Would like to hear your thoughts?

I own 2 basses, an entry level Ibanez and a MIK Fender P. I believe the magic is in the musician not the instrument. Finding the right instruments can be very hard especially if you want to try before you buy.

Try before you buy, that's something I never have done....

I'm with you on that the magic is in the musician, but a good instrument helps get the magic out a bit easier ( maybe)

I'm a lefty also, I buy everything online because local stores don't carry lefties. I know what brands I like so it's usually ok. My 2 cents is the two most lefty-friendly 'name' bass builders are G&L and Carvin, everything they make righty they also make lefty for no extra charge, and they're good instruments imo. I think having better basses has made me a better player because I think I sound better so I practice more. The better instruments also sound better in the band mix.

I started on drums and learned to play them lefty. It caused nothing but problems. (Can't sit in, limited instruments, etc). When I switched to bass I didn't make that mistake.

Left handed and play lefty. I own three basses, and all are right handed. They are all late 70's Gibsons, 2 RD Artists and a Ripper, and I string them lefty and play 'em as such. Some basses you can flip, some ya can't. The knobs may take a little getting used to, but like anything you learn to live with it, you begin to expect it. Hendrix, Cobain, and McCartney flipped guitars, so it is not uncommon.

The only thing you have to deal with is idiots..."Hey man, you are playing it upside down!"

I'm a lefty-plays-righty too... there's a club here for that too.

When I was younger, I picked up a bass at a GC, and held it left handed. Although the employee told me I was holding it wrong, my neighbor (a professional, gigging bassist) told me I was holding it correctly, but in fact the bass was wrong. He encouraged me to learn lefty. He explained that on a piano, the bass notes are on the left side, played by the left hand. I understand that drums are different, but drums are apples/oranges compared to guitar, bass or not.

It royally angers me when I hear people trying to "correct a problem." No. Play how it feels best, and how it allows you to progress.

Hate to say this, especially as a left-hand advocate, but I totally turned to the "dark side," bro. I went right handed. Taught myself pretty quickly and never looked back. My main reason? Left-handed basses are expensive and hard to find. I'm guessing a lot of bass players went that way, actually.

I'm a lefty too and I play lefty. I had a hard time finding a bass for me.

I have 5 basses. Carvin LB76, Carvin LB76F, Carvin BB70PF, Yamaha BBNII5L and an Ibanez Soundgear.

I plan on buying a Warwick.

I hear you! I do agree with you on that, never played as much as I have done thees last 3years after hooking up with Spector basses, it's more fun with a grate instrument..
