I am trying find people with similar taste in music here on TB. I like 80's thrash, some progressive metal (Mastodon, Tool) and alternative/grunge (Alice in Chains,Pearl Jam, Soundgarden). What genres of metal or hard rock and bands do you guys enjoy?

I like metal: Deep purple, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Death, Tool , Pantera, etc. I dont like sub metals genre: black metal, death metal, thrash metal, melodic metal, gotic metal, classical metal, southern metal , northern metal, neo-classic-melodic-jazz metal, gotic-wimpy-hardcore-porno metal, vegetarian metal, straight metal, gay metal ,etc.

Am I metal enough or Am I pousser?

No. No Metalheads. As if anyone has ever seen a Metal band with a bassist. Nonsense, I say!

=P

But yes, truly. Many Metalheads, I'm sure. Though it's a term that I don't see used a lot these days; I do feel like it applies to me, personally. It's a good word. I often find that the kind of people who use it as a descriptor of themselves are often rather intelligent beings, too.

My style of Metal is a lot different to yours. Another great thing about Metal culture. There is a substyle of Metal for every occasion. I prefer my Death, Tech, a bit of Black, a good chunk of Doom and Sludge and Post-. Thrash and Grunge were some of the stuff that first got me into it. But is surprisingly a lot less common for me to listen to these days. My era is the 90s, where that stuff started really dying down. Metallica fell apart, Nirvana had their obvious troubles. But Death Metal has surprisingly been as strong as it has ever really been. It came off of Thrash, and you can definitely hear that in the earliest pioneers of the genre. But it has evolved into so much. It's a style that merges so easily with others, to create magnificent fusions.

My ultimate favourite band is Gojira. An amalgamation of Death, Prog and Groove. The epitome of headbanging music. You just can't help yourself moving along to their music.

My favourite album of all time is their From Mars To Sirius. Just wonderful. Perfection to me. Not a single thing wrong with that album from beginning to end.

My favourite album of last year has to be Gorguts' Colored Sands [sic]. An instant classic. These guys were already veterans, gone so long from the scene. The comeback could have really gone either way. But it felt like they completely outdid themselves, and created something that was both new, but also was very much Gorguts. They really took to the modern sound with ease.

Metal has changed a lot over the years. In the late 60s Black Sabbath was considered metal. In the 70s and 80s it was Judas Priest and AC /DC. Now it's basically songs that are loud have inaudible vocals with no melody. The hard rock of today is more like metal was years ago. I still like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, AC/DC, etc. and some newer rock, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Live and a few others.
