I did a Gibson 69 Slot Head EB-O project with my son- I bought it on Ebay- It had a new neck attached, Pickup, bridge and that was all that came with it.

Mods-

Rio Grande Pit Bull pickup
Push Pull Coil splitter pot for the Pit bull
Big D varitone
Lightweight Sperzel Locking Tuners

I love these modded ones! Lately I've just had the sudden urge to get an EB-3 copy (no way in hell can I buy the real thing)...so I then thought why not just get an Epi EB-0 and throw another pickup in? And here this thread is.

$200ish is a pretty nice price for a moddable platform. I DO have my Jaguar Bass pickups just laying around unused as well...
I kind of want to get one and refinish it in green :hiding:

I have to ask about the neck. Is it comparable in size to, say, a Jazz-style neck? It looks unnaturally thin near the headstock so I can't tell just on pics alone. For the guys that used a completely different neck -- what kind/where'd ya get it?

Yes. I just shaved off the excess between the screw mounts to give a little more room for the extra pots and preamp. I had planned on making it like a 64 EB3 cavity, which is larger because the pots are further apart...which looks much better, but it was not necessary for this.

I replaced the neck pick up with the one from my Gibson SG (I put a Model 1 in it) and at the bridge I installed a neck pick up from my Jazz that I upgraded the pick ups in. The Jazz neck works well because of the tighter string spacing. I installed a 3-way pick up switch and installed a extra set of volume & tone pots. Sense this photo was taken I installed a Hipshot bridge. I got the bass off CL for $80 and it was like new. I had most all the parts laying around so I only have about $200.00 into it. That includes Dunlop strap locks, LaBells strings and the bridge. It sounds and plays great and it is a nice back up to my Gibson. I picked up a black one not long ago that I am working on right now. I am puttin in a Model 1 neck pick up and a Gretch TV Jones at the bridge along with a few more mods.

Great mods! Is that a brass nut? I'm considering one for my EB-0 but haven't heard any feedback on that component.

I'm a little late to this thread but these are some wicked custom EBs ;)

I had an Epi EB3 for a couple of years (long scale) but I couldn't get on with the GIANT headstock on the end of the long slim neck - it looked and felt out of balance.

I have been recently considering getting an Epi EB0 and adding a pickup etc.

There are many versions of the short-scale Epi EB0 as I understand it - is there a preferred version to get...?

I know there are Basswood bodies and Mahogany, Maple necks and Mahogany, set neck or bolt on...the differences are many.
Which is a good choice...?

Thanks, cost $200 on Evilbay originally- came as a husk with a new neck grafted on it, the original pickup & bridge that was it.
There have been other Gibson EB-0 husks around $200-$400 that pop up from time to time. Its a great little bass. Nothing else does what that mudbucker can do. Works great with effect pedals like fuzz & over drive. The rio grande Pitbull gives the bass a Billy Shehan tone. Surprisingly the bass really growls (short scale).
