I counted 17 running/complete bicycles in the cave, each of which borderline *need* $50-$100 worth of this and that(brake shoes/pads, tires, cassette/chain...).

Any mountain bikers??

In my defense, my kids each have 1 or more, as does wifey. There's also a tandem. I would like to sell the youngest child's starter- she's outgrown it, there's no more kids to hand it down to and she's not all that attached.

Ohhhhh , someone worst than me
In my house right now , I have 8 bikes wich are mine.
I should try to sell 2 or 3....
I thought it was just me! I have 2 mountain bikes, 2 racers, a single speed flip/flop track bike, currently fixed wheel, and a "huge" alloy framed hybrid that is way too big for me (was my son's who is 6'4"), all ride-able.
Plus a Reynolds 531 frame that I have been meaning to build up since 1970, a rod braked 1950s Raleigh in need of restoration, and a unicycle with a puncture!
How I come to have a unicycle is beyond me, I think my eldest daughter (the cycle fanatic of the family) left it in my garage years ago and forgot to tell me.Love the thread, I just wish I had something to add to it but the mountain biking I do is very tame by comparison. (I am 62 and go out with a couple of guys 68 and 74.)
This reminds me of an inspiring sight: Pausing on a tunnel-like, manzanita-lined semi-technical section(you could rip it fairly quick but still had to pick through rocks and ruts, all while dodging eye-pokers and handlebar-grabbers), my bud and I were treated to a couple of geezers(had to have been 60+)coming through, just KILLING it. Like a couple of 20-somethings on Red Bull. We just said *YEEEAH!*

That sounds like the 74 y.o. that I ride with, he is completely fearless on downhill stuff. I am pretty fit but have a very strong self preservation instinct, he just goes for it. Our local rides are more rolling hills than technical trails.
A couple of years ago the other 2 did a pretty gruelling long distance road ride with some serious hill climbing in it (I would have joined them but had a gig). A few weeks later we were out on our bikes on a trail and met a group of much younger mountain bikers. They screeched to halt and asked the 2 older guys if they were the ones that had done the long distance ride, to which they replied yes. They just said "respect" and tore off again, made them feel real good.
I've heard that lift access DH has not been in southern california for a few years now. I haven't been in the biking scene that long to know for sure but that's what I've heard some of the old timers say.
I see- cool. I plan on doing some shuttle runs this summer on my 05 Gemini- I am stalling hard on a repaint/rebuild...

I also just read in MBA of an LA/Valley shuttle guy that's doing that full time now. Pretty cool for the area. Plus the new stuff at Snow Summit. Used to live in HB.
Been working nights and shuttling kids, no rides for a week+... 
On a potentially-positive note, Monday morning I will be returning to the world of pro bike wrenching. Likely repairs and assembling new cheapos, but Im sure Ill get to finger a nice one or two. Bonus/only reason to do it: *EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT*

From what I recall regarding DH at Snow Summit, it was shut down due to either a serious injury that occurred during one of the former DH competitions or the emergence of illegal trails, or a combination of both. There's still lift access available to MTBers but they/we must only use the legal trails of which there are only a handful.

I was on my way to start clearing a corridor for a new trail the other day and discovered some very nice dirt jumps just down from the entrance. Gotta get up there on my bike.
New trail is going to be ridiculous.

Man, that is sweet. I have been trying to get on with a bicycle job for a year now. I have never rebuilt a suspension fork, or worked professionally in a bike shop, so they won't hire me. Even though I have been wrenching on bikes for 28 years. Enjoy!
