Not sure but I think "mech" comes from our roadie friend and it started as a description for mechanical grouppo as opposed to electronic grouppo.

Here's one you may not have seen yet. It's the stem "hole" of my Mavic 819 rim. It was having serious leakage problems so I popped it open and found this. I'm not sure if it was due to over tightening of the valve stem, corrosion from Stan's, or a combination of both. I don't remember ever using a metal base valve stems and I find it hard to believe that typical rubber or plastic bases could do that. A little JB Weld and it was good as new.

Woah, do you change tubes with a hammer? Lol never seen one do that.

Probably fibers from Tubeless stuff.....



I've worked in Bike shops too in the 90' and seen countless funny and not-so-funny "JRA" as we called them.....

Never ran tubes in it. It MAY have happened when I pulled the valve stem off. I vaguely remember it being non-cooperative.

Gruppo = Campagnolo
Group-San = Shimano
Bro-Set = SRAM

I've heard mech used in roadie circles, even for electronic stuff.

My favorite JRA incident.

So I'm just riding along, minding my own business, when I go to cross a shallow gully. When I say shallow, it was probably 8 feet wide and 1 foot at the deepest. I wasn't shifting, or changing body position or anything. As I crossed the bottom of the gully, the pedal stroke met resistance as the derailleur cage bent nearly in half. :confused:

Summertime! I trust everyone's riding to the point of too-exhausted-to-post-about-it. :D
SO: Finished the Gemini rebuild, pics soon. My 14-yr-old son has somewhat claimed it- shorty stem, slammed/short seatpost+small guy=midget on monster truck bike. He's pretty ballsy on it, though. Has done things I hesitate on.
Recently slapped some Avid BB-7 mechanical disc brakes on my SS; they definitely lean toward *on/off* compared w/the hydraulic Hayes that went back onto the Gem. On that note- Mark Reccord, are BB-7s always noisy? High-pitched, car-brake type squeak whenever applied fairly hard? I got the calipers used, so the pads may be tired.

Walking out of one of my local Guitar Centers today and one of the guitar guys whips out an old Kona Stinky with an old school red World Cup Boxxer on it for his daily ride here in South Florida. Not a typical sighting for sure! I thought my Nomad was overkill. Come to find out he just moved here from Arizona.
