Any mountain bikers??

Since I'm moving out to Reno, NV. in the next few months (the Mrs' is leaving for there tomorrow); I picked up a 2012 Transition Bandit 29 frame this past week. The plan is to swap the parts over from my Transition TransAM 29 to the Bandit.

As for the TransAM and my On-One Inbred 29 single speed ... I'm either gonna turn the TransAM into a single speed and ditch the On-One frame and forks ... or the Mrs' gets the single speed (she's only gonna use it to tool around a bit on the flat-ish areas, so I doubt she'll have an issue riding a 32/20 ratio) ... and build the TransAM up as a 1x10 with the 120mm Reba forks I just picked up for it.

LBS made me an offer I could NOT pass up on a pair or Specialized Roval ALs. Pics in a few days when I put her back together

Nice wheels! Hubs aren't swappable from QR to thru axle, though, are they?

Looks like Hope is introducing a 40t cog for 1x setups. Same idea as the Oneup or Wolftooth ones. Apparently people have been having issues with rear mechs and the 42 tooth ones. Think I'll continue my Hope fanboism and get one. :D

From this morning: Bluebird skies, crusty snow, lots of fun! It's amazing how a few feet of snow cover can turn a relentlessly technical trail into a fast, flowy one. :D

Nice. Moab!! That's on my bucket list.

Well, I went to Palm Springs and did a little reconnaissance to scout out a few trails. First day, was a complete wash. Almost all uphill and the downhill section was SUPER technical with unmakeable (at least for me) switchbacks and big rocks to roll you off a huge rocky cliff. Not a lot of fun. Then to make matters worse, it dumped me into a riverbed that was super sandy. On the other side of the wash was semi-paved dirt river trail that ran along a cement river embankment. It was steep. I literally had to crawl up it on my hands and knees to get my bike up there. I finally make it up, and I've ridden no more that a couple hundred yards, and I could see horse people that lived on the other side of the embankment yelling at me, saying that it was private property. I had headphones in, so I pretended that I didn't hear them. I kept riding because I could see the highway back to where I needed to go less than a mile away. Then where the trail converged with a road that I could take to the highway, I was stopped by a couple of security guards in a golf cart. I told them that I was lost and wound up in the river bed and I'll be out of there in 5 minutes. They wanted to stop me and wait for the police. I told them, to pound sand and send the police onto Highway 111 to find me. F those guys. They tried to follow me in their cart but I was able to avoid them. I saw a motorcycle cop drive the other way but no one stopped me. So I tried exploring whether or not I went the wrong way. It was the right way, I just made wrong turns on the trail. But in my exploration I ran into this dead end which I found funny.

The next day I went to different spot and it all made sense. The area I was at the day before was the bottom of the trail of what was a LONG 28 mile trail that ran from a summit to the valley below. I was trying to go UP what was essentially a downhill section. Gorgeous ride. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to do the whole thing, AND I parked my car at the top on the mountain and ideally I would have needed to have been dropped off there or have taken a cab from the bottom to the top. But this trail looks killer. I can't wait to return to give it a go. If you're looking to do this trail. Bring a friend. It can be spooky. You're completely isolated with no cell phone service and it's desolate up there. I had a backpack full of extra gear in case I got stranded. Here's some pics from that trail.

I just finished up my Bandit 29 build this past weekend. Since Mrs' jumped at the chance to have the On-One single speed build when I offered it to her ... I ended up not being able to swap any parts to the Bandit build. I just happened to be lucky enough to have my buddy (who is a wrench at my LBS) give me some great deals on some parts he was looking to off-load due to some of his own recent purchases.

As for the single speed; I'm sure the Mrs' and I will be sharing it, but it will be her's when we ride together ... which is cool, as I wasn't really looking forward to parting with it ... now I'll at least have visitation.

Nice looking build. Very clean.

29lbs is very respectable, especially considering there aren't any real weight weenie parts on there. My Tracer is ~33lbs. I have the exact same bashgaurd out in my garage. Hahaha!

^Looks killer. Anything under 30lbs on a FS mtb is good in my book. Looks like you could haul ass on this thing.

Thanks Mark & Maki!

Yeah, I really can't say crap about the weight. I was hoping for around 30lbs ... but was figuring 32lbs ... so I was very pleasantly surprised. Just looking at her, I wouldn't have figured it. And as Mark pointed out ... no real weight weenie parts. Heck, the Titec stem weighs in at half-a-pound!... the X7 rear derailleur is no light weight either!! :D

I built it up not really even thinking about weight (the carbon handlebars are more for their complaince characteristics than weight savings). My goal was a solid bike that could take a bit of abuse with as little maintenance as possible.

Yup, she's pretty quick alright. Goes nicely on the flats and decends so much faster than I figured. For a full-squish, not so bad climbing either ... and that's even without my rear shock dialed in yet. Hopefully she'll get-on well in Reno & Tahoe ... especially since I built her up with riding out there in mind.

That is very nice, and I am not partial to 29ers- no hate, but no attraction either- until right now

I get where you're coming from ... Thanks for digging on mine. I guess there's one thing, regardless of wheelsize ... a nice bike is a nice bike. :)
In all honesty, I was really wanting to go the route of a 27.5 FS build, but for budgetary reasons I went 29'er ... as there's really not any deals to be had on 27.5 stuff yet ... its just too new. Plus going 29'er, I can swap wheelsets and forks around a bit easier if need be.
