Any mountain bikers??

Chino Hills in a temporary coat of green from a ride earlier today. San Gabriel Mountains in the background.

Winter time in SoCal means everything that's normally brown turns green and vibrant. I lived there (HB) for a couple of years and moved there at Christmas time and what a difference in summer. Funny thing is I never saw the Catalina Islands for months.

Cool video. I finally hit the trails Monday and it was definitely a learning curve! Started out way too hard and it was skittery and all over the place. Stopped 3 or 4 times and kept dropping the pressure until it was stabile and just sticking the corners. Much, much better. My first 29er, and my first rigid hardtail since like 1984 or so.

Added a riser bar and some Shimano 545 pedals instead of the flats. This thing is a steamroller through the fast and flowy sections and climbs great. What started out with a little terror ended up being a blast.

It's awesome that you won it! Still enjoying it?
I still haven't managed to pick up a fatty, just no budget for it with two kids in daycare. :D

My 26" street/trials rig.

That's not a seat. It keeps the gunk out of the seat tube, and prevents anus/frame interaction. No sitting down for me.

Open to questions. Happy riding to all!

Very cool. Trials riding is awesome. Beyond my skill level though. :D

I haven't been riding at all this winter, didn't even get my studded tires on. My mother in law was in hospital most of the winter and things have been pretty unsettled. Sent my rear shock off to Suspensionwerx for a much needed rebuild and tune and I ordered the stuff to do a ghetto tubeless conversion. Spring's just around the corner.

Yeah!! It's good. Changed a few things. Got some SPD Platforms on it and a taller riser bar and some white Vans Lock-On grips. Found out that there is almost enough locally yo have a Fatty race class for the mtb races even though a couple of the guys are doing VERY WELL mixed in the regular classes. One guy placed 2nd in a recent 6 hour enduro race.

Yep , a 907.
Been riding that width for 20 Years , I feel like I will hit all the trees when I tried wider :)

I absolutely love night riding too , did a lot of 24hres races a couple of years ago.
I always use one wide light on the bike and one narrow on the helmet

There are a few spots where it's a bit tight but the wide bars/short stem feel awesome, especially when the going gets tech and/or fast.

I do the same. I just bought a Serfas TSL LT-1000 for my helmet and it totally swamps all of my cheap Magicshine ones and it's way way lighter. Still use a Magicshine on the bar because even though it isn't as bright as the Serfas it still helps bring out the relief of the trail.

Built myself one of these when I had baby's, a few stumps, pallets and rocks in the backyard and I could ride all day and never be more than 20 feet for the kids. They thought it was great watching dad fall on his ass.

:D

I built bike ramps "for my kids" and I use them as much as they do. They get a great kick out of me on the bike and it's a great way to practice my bike handling skills.

Rare pic of me actually riding my bike (or most of me, anyway). It's a screen cap from a video clip my buddy did the other day. Can't figure out how to post the video.

I used to do a lot of mountain bike racing. It's been a few years since I did much of that as I've had family and other things eat up more and more of my time. This year for Christmas, my wife told me to buy a bike and race again next year. She's awesome.

Here's a bit of a tease. It's a Christmas present, so I can't ride it yet. It's just sitting in my basement yearning to go outside.

Wow!!! ... not much movement on this thread. My last post was 6/14 and that was two pages ago! I've been riding a lot ... on TB almost never since then ... (on PinkBike mostly) Just moved to North Eastern Fl. Since I was on TB last ... I moved to Reno / Tahoe ... then back to western NC for a bit before heading down here.

Riding out in Reno / Tahoe was beautiful ... I'll make sure to load some pics of my local haunts while out there (mostly Peavine Mt and Tahoe Rim Trail). So glad to be riding on the East Coast again ... even if it's in Fl (Graham Swamp trail is my new local spot).

I hope to revive this old thread ... it's so worth it!

Quarterly thread bump!

Got out for my first ride since Christmas yesterday. We had a big thaw last week with a lot of rain and then a flash freeze on Saturday which made for perfect conditions for skinny tires with lots of studs. Glare ice and hard crusted snow mixed with sections of bare but frozen trail. It was an absolute hoot and if anything, this trail is easier when it's frozen like this. The Schwalbe tires offer ridiculous grip on ice and hard crust and were actually pretty decent on the frozen dirt/rocks. Too bad they're calling for a couple of feet of snow again this week. :D

Dang. Wish I could see the ground around here. I went out for a short spin on my new bike on Saturday. The trail was packed by people hiking on it, so it was all footprints and holes. Not good. You'd stay on top as long as you were on the trail, but go off the side and you're done. I put my foot down and sunk in mi-thigh deep snow.

Oh well, it's going to be a while for us here. We need the water, though, so I won't complain too much.
