I like to try my hand at poetry, here's a few (mostly haiku, thanks for indulging)
Winter Horses
There's a poem I'm looking for.
Help me if you know it, it's been pulling at me gently,
but firmly.
I checked the bedroom and the stack of books near
my wife's Kuan Yin statue.
I went page after page, headlong into my
City Light's Pocket Anthology,
next was the table of contents in various collections.
It's words are special to me, and spend the days hidden
deep down somewhere.
It was something about a dapple grey stallion
standing alone in the corral,
hoofing the ground and swatting flies,
watching the breath go in and out of his nostrils,
standing alone on a winter's afternoon.
Trumpet tones crashing
Miles in his finery
romancing the funk
The apple orchard
as it breathes now in the sun
so tomorrow fades
Moonlight has warmly
lit your features in a wash
of painterly strokes
On a balcony
smoking menthol cigarrettes,
the moon on water.
Cornflowers turn blue,
and starry nights cannot tell
one from the other.
Warm midday sun
melts the snowman where he stands
icicles melting
Cat on the windowsill
studies the parking lot,
snowplow dragging it's blade
