any preamp/booster better than MXR micro amp?

The boost in the bassbone is very good. And it has a great DI.

I like the old MXR microamp for guitar -- it gives loads of crunch into a cooking tube amp. Haven't tried it with bass though...

don't know the MXR but i'll advice you the EP BOOSTER by Xotic. Designed for guitar but sounds like compress a bit and focus/tighten the "good" frequency range. As alwas depends on your style / gear ; )

better tone, something that'll retain the lows and have them nice and thumpy, good scooped sound, and crispy highs.

I would have to mention I run the micro amp after my boss TU3 tuner, and run into a bugera bvp500. The shaping on that is amazing, but wanting to shape my signal abit more before it gets to the amp.. if that makes sense
