Any Randy Jo Hobbs fans?

+1, I dug the more R&B flavor of Edgar's earlier bands to the later streamlined rock version. But they killed too, I remember the first time I saw Ronnie Montrose, he had just taken Derringer's place in Edgar's band.

I thought it was the other way around, no? In The Edgar Winter Group, Ronnie Montrose was the guitarist on their debut album They Only Come Out At Night, but he was replaced by Rick Derringer before the second album was recorded.

Although Rick was the guitarist in Edgar Winter's White Trash, so maybe that's what you meant? Very incestuous bunch of musicians!

Hope I didn't come off as being "corrective".....I remember reading an article in "CREEM" magazine (early 70's high school dayz) about Dan Hartman. The pic of him in a silver "Lost In Space" lookin' suit with a small bass affixed to him was the strangest thing I ever saw :D

Floyd Radford was the original guitarist in White Trash, and he later joined Johnny's band as second guitarist, so they were a pretty incestuous bunch.;) I saw those bands so many times because it seemed they came though the NYC area every six months, so I might have the lineage a little out of whack.

+1, great band! In a recent Modern Drummer magazine they give props to drummer Bobby Ramirez from that band, him and Randy killed together.

I saw Randy Jo play with Johnny Winter twice. I always was impressed by his playing style. He had a big over sized apple pie hat on and had his eyes closed most of the time with a big grin on his face and his head just boppin' side to side. Very into his music.

I definitely remember RJH being credited with two tunes on They Only Come Out At Night & I definitely remember one of those tunes was "We All Had A Real Good Time" ...I'm no help here!

but fwiw, there's a video on youtube of The Edgar Winter Group performing "Free Ride" where Dan Hartman is playing a doubleneck guitar/bass: He plays that recurring intro guitar riff every time it comes up, then switches to bass for the verses & choruses.

I highly doubt he would have done it that way on the album even if he did play bass on that track, but just mentioning it as some "Free Ride" trivia.

I saw the EWG in the early '70s (James Gand w/ Tommy Bolin opened)...Hartman was playing the doubleneck for "Free Ride"...Hartman played the "recurring intro guitar riff" while Edgar Winter reached around a tapped the "A" note on the bass neck. Derringer played the solo.
If I remember, I check the album credits when I get home.

That is one of my top 10 R+R LP's. Just BadA**:bassist: I wore one out and had to buy another. Huge influence on this 14 yr old.

Randy Jo Hobbs played bass & Johnny Badanjeke played drums on "Free Ride" & "We all Had a Real Good Time".
