Any Randy Jo Hobbs fans?

YES!! My wife won tickets from Radio Z93. First time we had seen Jeff Beck as well.

Months before, a co worker who had a problem with nose candy, had been SRV's roomate and at Peachtree-Parkwood and got me his autograph..didn't even know who he was..just thought I MIGHT LIKE IT. It references "Soul to Soul" well before it was released.. didn't understand until that album came out. Stays in our bank with important papers..ALWAYS.

You will also remember S R V making reference to his getting his life turned around, here.

Funny I posted today about S R V in a Jaco thread as well.

I've been communicating with some of Randy's family members and they are very much interested in keeping his legacy alive.

I made them aware of this link, so if anybody has any stories or memories to share, they will see it.

Here's a message that they agreed to share.

Thank you Jackie, My wife was a Hobbs, and Randy was family. The Family has been Torn up for years now over his loss.. Being a Music Lover myself, I decided years ago to do what I could to Bring at least some bit of Randy back into the frey, if for anything, to add more to his name than "He died in a Hotel Room in Dayton, Broke, Homeless, and Living off the "Bread Line" Yes by 93' Randy did not have much money, But he was NOT homeless in Dayton, he had a small apartment in Union City (His Hometown) and probably never stood in a Bread Line.. Locally there are alot of "Rumors" and Urban Legends about his Death, the only TRUTH that matters is the World Lost a Great Musician.. Thank you Very Much for your Input. Im really hoping that the more I dig into this, the more I find.. Have you ever heard the Story of Randy getting into a Fist fight with Ginger Baker over finding him with a Knife to Johnnys throat (I think at a Club in England) ???

Are you referring to the Don Kirshner video of this tune on Youtube? That's my all-time favourite version of Rock & Roll Hoochie Coo ... bar none. I recorded the audio, put it on my MP3 player and let a guitar player friend of mine listen to it ... I thought he would appreciate Johnny Winter's fearsome playing on that track but all he could say after giving it a listen was "God ... who is that on bass!?"

There is also a really good bass cover of "Rock Me Baby" on Youtube ... played and posted by an English fellow. Did I say really good? That's an understatement, he nails it.

Thanks for posting that......made my day! Interesting neck on the bass; Fender? I spotted some Ibanez or Yamaha tuners on it.

RJH was a monster! Check out Edgar Winter's White Trash album, "Roadwork." Rick Derringer, & Bobby Ramirez in the rhythm section.

Some of the best R&B AND R&R bass playing you'll ever hear! The horns are pretty tight, as well, especially Jon Smith on tenor sax.

(There's also a cameo by Johnny on the R&R album.)

I used to be in a band with guys who grew up with Hobbs (and the McCoys). One night at practice our drummer (a super nice guy named Mike Dagget) asked if I wanted to play Randy's bass!!?
It was an old sweet P-Bass that had supposedly been modified a little on one of his many many tours. What a kick!
I still look for that bass on old videos.

Old friends, gone but not forgotten!

Old thread but no matter to me. Music is timeless. Check out Randys playing on this. Great groove. We gonna cover this JW song. I'm gonna sing it and drum it because I dont know any drummers that can play like Richard Hughes. I can. A long time friend is gonna bass onn this song. He will use my blue line svt and original 810 flatback. He has a jazz bass.
