any SHORT SCALE with GOOD BALANCE???

im looking for a short scale bass, my first options were sg and mustang but BOTH of them have neck dive!!!

SO im looking for a well balanced short scale bass. i´ll rather have it in the LOW side of the budget since i´ll probably mod it...
SX are not an option since i live in spain. and i guess i´ll rather a "traditional" shaped one... but im oppen to ANY suggestion...

i just want a well builded one, solid construction... you know.
what would you think of modding a squier bronco?....
is it also neck heavy? how well woul construction be?

im kind of desperate :rollno:

The mustang's neck dive isn't all that bad to my tastes. I recently picked one up to help me limp through a few gigs while I am battling tendonitis. Then again my usual breadwinner is a Warwick Streamer LX6 wideneck, which is the very definition of neck dive. Maybe my perspective is skewed by that fact. If you swapped out the tuners for something a little lighter weight and used a wide strap, I doubt that the neck dive would even be noticeable.

PS: This is my first MIJ fender. If they are all of comparable quality, then I see why so many TB'ers are constantly praising them. Seems just as well built as the MIA's thus far.

It is maybe possible that you could find an Ampeg AMB-1, one of the wood-bodied reissues from the '90s, at a decent price used. Not cheap though. They had good balance. Also many of the hollow-body (Gibson jazz guitar type body, not Beatle/violin bass) short scale basses I've played had good balance due to the size of the body.

They're hard to find, but Switch Wild 1 basses are very well balanced, and not very expensive.

i'll bet that birdsong basses are very balanced.
i only played 3 shorscales, squier musicmaster (vista series), 70's fender mustang and an univox hi-flyer copy. the mustang was the one with less noticeable neck dive. it's not that bad.
hofner copies are probably balanced too.

Birdsong basses have *great* balance (light weight, long upper horn)... Though you'd have to pay 2-3X a mustang and you did mention cost (then again someone mentioned an alembic).. Also not necessarily traditional looking :) But great basses. One of mine is only 6 and a half pounds and wouldn't neck dive if you attached a piano to the headstock ;)

i HEARD about mustang´s neck dive and was scared right away... i just cant stand neck dive at all!!!

are you telling me they are ok?

regarding to sx spain, you can not buy them yet around, though im trying to get myself an endorsment deal with them :D

i also though about a squier bronco or whatever and then modding the hell out of them. are squier´s construction any good?

p.s. STANLEYS´s?? birdsongs??? I WANT A CHEAP ONE!!!

Yeah, I've heard the same about Birdsong's too. All my basses are 34+, sorry I couldn't help much>
