Any Steve Martin comedy fans out there???

I'm hit or miss about Steve Martin. I find some of his movies dumb and boring, yet others among my favorites.
"Roxanne" is a great movie, and very quotable. "All of Me" is truly brilliant.
Martin's banjo playing is world class and he's earned 5 Grammy awards for his numerous bluegrass albums.
I'm old enough to have appreciated Martin's many appearances on SNL. I think he really excelled in that environment.
I haven't heard much of his stand up material. I really should go back and give it a listen.

He's done a few things that have made me laugh. He's great in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. The Jerk was a funny movie. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. He stunk on Saturday Night Live, but Saturday Night Live mostly stinks.
For a totally different Steve Martin check out the Spanish Prisoner. It's a David Mamet movie therefore it's very engrossing and the dialogue has it's own rhythm.
The Jerk is probably my all-time favorite comedy film not involving Monty Python.

i've enjoyed him enough (standup/live, movies, records) that i feel i can anticipate him somewhat, like he's that familiar as a character --- something akin to 'comfort'. i'm glad i've enjoyed his stuff! i voted "yes," i'm a fan.
10 or 15 years ago, there was a very popular religious book called The Purpose Driven Life. I couldn't see that book without thinking about Navin Johnson finding his 'special purpose'.
I absolutely love all his movies through the 70's and 80's.

I regretfully stopped paying attention in mid 90's, and totally checked out when he started churning out drek like Sgt Bilko.
I increasingly became more aware of his successful music career (and thought he'd given up on acting / comedy).
On a whim, I decided to check out a new TV show he was launching back in 2021, and, well...
that turned out to be some of the best work of his career.

It's been fun watching him go from "wild and crazy guy!" to one of America's favorite movie dads to the cool grandpa/older uncle figure, and he's done it seamlessly. I'm a big fan!
Two of my favorite SM movies. And, they are an interesting look at two sides of L. A.
I still go back and listen to his comedy albums. I’m surprised at how much I can quote. He literally changed comedy. His memoir, “Born Standing Up” is one of my favorite books. I even got the audiobook since he reads it.
I was never really a fan (I could take him or leave him based on the movies of his and SNL bits I’d seen) but I saw his stage show with Martin Short a few months backbeat and it was excellent. They had a bluegrass band as part of the show and the band absolutely killed it (and Steve can really play). It was also cool that the band wasn’t just there to back Steve up: there was some great interplay between the two and the band was given the spotlight sans Steve for a couple of songs. If you get a chance to see the show definitely do!
I grew up having possibly over half of his movies on vhs (along with a ton of others that I think dad pirated via the big ol satellite or maybe one of his buddies with cable dubbed) and my sisters and I would watch them when there was lightning storms and we couldn’t be outside.
