Any strip their Rockbass Streamer?

I have a 2011 Rockbass Streamer LX In the black high polish, and I absolutely love the bass, but the finish is a little bland to me.

I'd like to strip it down to the wood or sealer, stain it a bit, and then refinish. Problem is though, if the grain isn't nice, I'd probably just repaint it. So, has anyone stripped one of these down (standard Streamer or the LX), and if so, what were your results?

That is the same time I'm thinking of doing mine. Good luck. I'll post mine as well.

There is a thread where someone left theirs in a very hot and dry room for a while, then took it out, stripped it and put a lot of sealer or something on it, and the sudden moisture caused it to expand suddenly and then it got a hairline crack. I think it's called "I just destroyed my Warwick" or something like that. It didn't sound like the crack was that bad, but then out of frustration he smashed it to pieces, thus destroying it.

I'm just going to keep mine in an area with adequate humidity, so I doubt we'll have any of those issues.

The wood is listed as corelina, which I think is a species of pine. I don't know if the grains will be as big and dark as I'd like, but even if I did a deep stain or something, I'd like it more.

The bass really looks great. Problem is is that I just love Warwicks and most of the photos I see have a beautiful natural, or stain finish on it, and I just get a little envious. Best bass I ever bought though... Well, my new fretless Corvette is making a strong case.

Well my plan right now is to strip the paint and just rub in an oil finish. I won't be able to start the project for another two weeks. If the stain looks ****** then I'm going to get it painted seafoam green.

Sounds like a fun and worthy project, Matthew_84!

Keep us all posted with pictures of your progress. Good luck and don't hesitate to post any questions or problems you run into here -- we are happy to help!

I also have a streamer LX rockbass-5-string version in gloss black. Great axe for the money. I'm looking to do an "opaque" blonde butterscotch nitro refinish with my luthier friend when the time permits ( Jazz fest season is upon us). What I have noticed is that the existing finish is coming up in different spots from playing wear (i.e. sitting on my keys during sitdown restaurant gig sets). I'm pretty sure the body wood is rather soft and "dingable" but I'm also not a fan of gloss finished basses. So I'm willing to risk some dings and bruises for a nitro refinish, maybe it will "breathe" a bit more tonally. I'll start a thread when the refinish starts to happen.
