any thoughts on the sire marcus miller

I just bought one last night for $450, used two months old. IMO, took me 5-10 minutes to dial in "the tone"!!! If you're looking for your "own sound", this bass isn't for you!!! GREAT BASS FOR THE PRICE!!! That's it.......

Some of the earliest Sire video demos are literally horrific. This is a great one! ^^^^
Good utilitarian instrument. Not being Jazz player I decided not to return it as it is great buy for under $500. Mine came horribly set up so first impression wasn't the greatest. Overall, good instrument. If you know ins and outs of retail industry for musical instruments (and mark up structure) you could think this would cost $1,199 at a guitar center should Sire decided to go this route.
I appreciate its passive tone affecting active one (or vise versa). I can dial in great old school tone with passive knob just enhanced tiny bit with active one. I learnt first about passive/active circuitry when playing jazz clone worth over $3,500. Great idea not seen in basses in price range of Sire.

I played one with Jauqo III-X (his bass) and it was really nice. Obviously felt a lot like a Jazz bass, and I was impressed. Very good deal.
If you're looking for the Marcus sound at an affordable price, I don't think you can go wrong with this. All the reviews I've seen are glowing as far as the electronics and workmanship goes.
I couldn't tell you anything about them but a couple months back there was quite a few on these classifieds for sale,maybe the customers selling them Wernt happy IDK??
anyways. I have read some pretty good reviews. personally I don't find they look cheap at all. well see, I might go for one seeing the price is right
Wow talk about uninformed! Not only is this the most rapidly selling mid-priced jazz bass right now but it is currently selling out it's 5 string versions every single production run. So much to the point that many have nicknamed it the "Game Changer". There are also a handful of professional bassists that are using them and a gazillion YouTube vids posted from here to China. There are 2 extensive threads on the basses here. I think the biggest is titled Marcus Miller introduces new bass line....might not be that exactly. I have two 5's an ash natural and Alder honeyburst...they pretty much own all my boutiques that I haven't touched since getting the Sires
Personally, I would love to have one…definite GAS-fodder! I love Jazz basses, especially if they come with a vintage fretboard radius. Unfortunately, I definitely probably have too many. Then there are the two parts-bass projects in the works. 
I mean, I could afford one, but I can't afford to sacrifice what little elbow room I have left.
Even if one isn't in my cards for now, I've been following the progress of the Sire basses since they were first announced. Rarely have I seen such near-universal praise for a line of instruments. And for the price, it sounds like you can't go wrong. But for me and for now, I shall simply admire them from afar.

OK- just got back from Marcus Miller live in Atlanta. First- OMFG- He tore it up, literally, I never saw anybody play the bass like that!! and his band- AMAZING.
As I expected he did not do any of the tearing up on a Sire, it was all his Fender signature Jazz. (except one song he plays an African cigar box bass thingy).

Was in attendance as well. He might still be under contract thru the end of the year(?).
Could be. Did you think his drummer was mixed a little loud? When he played some of his fills he kind of drowned out MM, IMHO. Not that he wasn't quite good.
Sire is awesome - couldn't be happier with mine. Is it best of them all? No. But this is definitely the best - head and shoulders, and then some - bass in under-$600 range. It plays and feels like a good working instrument at least twice as expensive (emphasis on "working": not expensive because it looks pretty, or uses rare woods, or whatever else - but because it sounds that good).
