Speed, that's why. About 8-9 years ago, I had an unexpected financial situation and an overdrawn bank account. I was able to quickly turn a bass into cash (not much less than I would have gotten if I tried to sell it), and I was able to do it in one afternoon. Any other approach would have taken more time and resulted in stacking bank fees. With GC, Craigslist, FB, eBay etc (and generally way too easy credit) I'm not sure why anyone would be putting pawning near the top of their list for cashflow.

Completely OT, but I also bought a bass from an unusual location...a second hand bookstore around the corner from my house. I spotted a Hiscox case in amongst a pile of stuff. Open it up, and here’s a 1978 MusicMan StingRay!
Been a long time. I once bought a Lotus P. It had terrible frets but otherwise was ok. I had it professionally defretted and I had a guy I knew sandblast the thick poly off the body. I oil rubbed it and slapped an EMG pickup in it and it became a favorite for years. Paid $75, spent around $250 on defret and the pickup. Years later sold it for around $700. How’d I do?
Been eyeing a 5 string bass thats been sitting in this pawnshop near me for about 3 months. Anybody ever bought from a pawn shop before? Post experiences below please.
