For some reason I just can't stand Gibson basses, I really can't put my finger on it, but something about them really turns me off... Anyone else feel this way?

On an unrelated note, I'm about to buy a brand new Rickenbacker 4003!

I've played a regular Gibson tbird and an sg style I'm not sure what model though. They were okay sounding to me but I couldn't get The sound I desired out of em. However my homeboy can really make any of them gibys wail for any kind of music he plays.

I'm OP's opposite. Aesthetically, sound wise, I love (most) Gibsons - even the thick, muddy EB0 sound. They just never seem to feel right in my hands. Whatever, though. The prices are too exorbitant for me to get a real one anyway.

nothing like a Gibson Thunderbird or a Victory bass or a Q-80. I am a Gibson Bass player. I now use a Tobias Growler as my number 1, made by Gibson , and also not respected here on TB but we are used to it. I don't like Ricks myself but that is my preference.but it is O.K. that you don't like Gibbys , that just leaves more for those who do.

I have never played a gibson bass that I liked. Not one. I think that some of them look really cool, but just not my flavor. Something about the neck feel and the position does not go well with my playing style. I respect anyone who likes them, but they are just not for me.

I wonder if a lot of the Gibson hatred comes from their short scale EB basses? I am just not comfortable on short scale instruments. The oversized overweight ones aren't helping their reputation either. That said I'd love a nice old Thunderbird or RD Artist as long as it didn't overly damage my wallet or back.
