anybody ever try Douglas basses?

Hi all
i'm thinking of buying a 6'er and looking for sth inexpensive. there are 2 opitons i find interesting:
- Douglas WOB 826 Black ($190) Link Removed
- Brice HXB-406 GL Black ($240) Link Removed

visually i like the 1st better. but brice is 35" and it'll give a more decent B sound i guess. what can you say comparing these 2 models?

another point is that shipping (rondo's) to my godforsaken place will cost around $140.
so the question is whether these basses will be worth the price + $140?

also while i've been searching thru ebay i found only a couple other instruments (peavey grind 6 and galveston) below the $400 point (incl shipping). but i'm not sure if it's a better option.

I have the version with jazz-type pickups Link Removed. It was being discontinued so I got it for $119. It plays great for the price.

I have that same bass. I believe I picked it up for $129, could be wrong though as I've had it a couple of years now. It's a great playing bass, and it sounds great too, especially with both pickups on it gets a nice, round tone. Its only issue with me is neck dive. Other than that, I've had good experience with the Douglas brand.

Wow, when shipping price approaches the price of the bass things get complicated quick! Since I assume that you have other choices that are local, and I know nothing about those prices/values, I'm, going to pass on "the worth it +$140" question.

My first 6er was a Douglas WOB826. My second was a Brice HXB406. While I liked the fact that I could play the Brice in passive mode (though you lose the use of the tone control, all tonal changes are your hands and the pup blend) I liked the feel and sound of my WOB better.

Soo, when I got my Brice Z6 (b-stock) I got rid of the HXB. I use a 0.130 B string (webstrings), which, IMO gives good sound and feel on the WOB. In fact, since the Z6 is wide-spaced and stretches my left hand in both directions, my main 6er is actually the WOB (but no, the Z6 is NOT for sale).

my local choices are unaffordable for me so far.
e.g.
LTD B405SM - $1.2K
YAMAHA RBX JM2 - $1.3K
IBANEZ SR1006EFM NTF - $1.6K

used 6'ers are extremely rare on the market and they are generally $600+ (korea, indonesia, sometimes japan)

somehow low-cost 6'ers don't get here.
that's why i'm asking to decide if it's worth paying a steep shipping cost.

Hi,

I've looked everywhere, can't seem to find fingerboard radius for this bass in the specs. The Fender I have feels good (9.5" radius), my MM Stingray still feels good, but is not as curved.
I had a Yamaha which was almost flat (so radius was very large, maybe 50" or something like that?) - didn't care for that flatness at all.
So, where does the Douglas fall?

Looks like I'll have to drive 1.5 hours to find out, so if you can help, might save a trip.

I bought a Douglas WEB 825 five string fretless for $169 shipped to my front door and I love it. Everyone that hears it loves it smooth buttery sounds with cheapo flatwounds

even after getting this bass ( my first 5 and my first fretless since playing standup in highschool many moons ago) I have played other fretless basses and still love mine.

This bass just happens to fit me and my playing style perfectly, when you find that match, it doesn't matter that it doesn't say fender on it or that it didn't cost you over a grand

unfortunately I think they discontinued this one much to the chagrin of my other bass buddies

That sunburst fretless is just plain sexy!! I almost envy you, but my little collection of basses with that body style is enough for me.

I have a Douglas fretless 6'er. It was $160.

...The side dots are in the wrong place, they're where they would be on a fretted bass. Not too big a deal, I just don't look at the neck.

The side dots are "usually" where they would be on a fretted. My fretless Stingray was like that, fretless Jazz, too.
The only fretless I ever owned that had the side dots exactly where the note is, was a Brice HXB 406.

The string through bridge doesn't have ferrules on the top side, so the strings are digging into the would a bit. I'm planning on fixing this at some point.

We must have the same bass

I fixed the string-through problem by getting a new, wider spaced bridge and no longer use the string-thru feature. I'll take 17.5mm spacing over the string-thru-body feature any day.
