Anybody having issues with TB loading up memory with Chrome Browser?

Hi Guys,

I noticed something peculiar with TB and Google Chrome. Things start getting slow and when going into task manager, one of the browser associated with TB can shows 1,000k or more of memory being used. I'm on a hotspot where my shop is and I am sucking through data like there's no tomorrow. Facebook does it too and so does AOL's browser.

Is it me, or is this some kind of new norm? You guys on the amp forum seem to be more up on this kind of thing than any other group I know of, pretty diverse IT backgrounds.

Try using the newest version of Firefox (they’re referring to it as Firefox Quantum) and see if you notice any difference. I’ve been using it since it was released on my Mac with good results.

Man that's just Chrome. It's full of memory leaks and it's a HOG.

Ironically, other browsers doing this years ago is the reason why most people switched to Chrome :confused:

I am aware that Meltdown and Spectre can cause performance slowdowns (primarily sucking away some CPU cycles, and perhaps impacting some highly performance related apps), but nothing I have read so far suggests that either of these would cause sites to not load in a browser.

My first instinct would be to look at extensions, potentially disabling them all and then testing them one by one in a diagnostic fashion.

All that it takes is a single update from one of them for all sorts of bad things to start happening.

Is it only bad when on TB? For the record, I personally haven't experienced any issues, but maybe they've decided to take up cryptojacking as an alternate source of income (joking... mostly).

You are likely correct. But bad or zero load times for web pages these days is often JavaScript. Or DNS. And both are being nicked lately, IMHO, due to the reasons you mention...

Everything loads fine, and plenty quick, but it seems like TB is loading all kinds of little adverts and such at times too. It's more about the crazy memory and data that I am seeing in task manager related to the Chrome tabs (mostly TB, AOL and Facebook)

I'm using Firefox but I had noticed this same thing earlier today; and also my browser was somehow not responding to KEYPRESS navigation (page up, page down, arrow down, etc.) for many seconds....

Mostly related to advertisers or flash objects for advertisers. And the new normal garbage which is gps related tracking software which keeps track your location and places you visit and saves the data for advertising statistics and also changed the adds according to places you been.

Facebook and im sure Aol are the biggest culprits in data collection and likewise useless software related data collection or flash objects. Huge update and changes have been made on Facebook all related to data collection for adds and business related to marketplace and for general advertising and user statistics

I turn off auto updates and encourage people to not update anything until you absolutely have to.

Which is usually when any wonderfully new flash update goes through and all the annoying advertising/ data collection/ flash objects cause the browser to slow down/crash cause the adds are trying launch krap that doesnt exist yet on your older version

I’m having the same exact problem. Same condition on my iPad Pro..
I did notify TB and have been communicating with Brian.

Another Linux user here.

I'm not having any memory problems but have a relatively slow internet connection and pages were taking forever to load, the ads load first and some of them are pretty big.

I installed Ghostery (ad, cookie and tracker blocker) and it is back up to a usable speed again.

I'm on Chrome on my my phone. The last couple days I've been having weird keyboard issues, only on TalkBass. For example here's what I just typed before I fixed it.

ImI'on ChromeCon my mph one. The last couple days I've been havinghweirdwkeyboard issuesi only on TalkBass.

Seems like it uses the first letter of the last word when I hit the spacebar. Very strange.
