Anybody hip to Turkuaz?

Thanks to the algorithm genius of Spotify (not kidding), today I learned about the Brooklyn-based funk band Turkuaz.

I'm not sure this is their intention but to me they sound like the funk-pop bands from the mid/late 80s but with a current sound production approach.

This set is from Tipitina's so they clearly have been around. Maybe I'm late to the party.

I never heard of them, but I dig it! Bassist is killing it on both bass and synth.

I only know of Turkuaz because of the tour they did playing all of Talking Heads Remain In Light album, with Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew. Probably learned about it from Belew's Facebook posts.

IMO, they sound grittier and less studied or clinical than, say, Dirty Loops or Vulfpeck (not bashing those bands; I like them, too!).

They’re definitely cool- a few similar bands I’ve followed: Sister Sparrow, Orgone, another one I can’t remember- but search “Janxta Funk” and you’ll find them something something joytime maybe

Pimps of Joytime. I actually opened for those guys on a club gig in Denver about ten years ago.
