Anybody using Alto Truesonic Powered Mains?

Whole band was thrilled, including myself. Setup and teardown takes a little longer than with passive monitors, but I've saved room in the car, am no longer carrying speaker cables, and I dropped from a 4-space rack with a power amp in it to just a 2-space for my power distribution and my wireless networking gear. The sound from the TS212's left nothing to be desired in this application. I haven't actually listened to music in them yet.

Thanks for the update. I'm planning on ordering a pair of TS210s this week for my basement rehearsal space -- taking advantage of MF's 15% OFF Labor Day Sale (plus 8% spiff for their Backstage Pass club). My Kustom 12's served me well for a several years, but it's time to upgrade to the Altos...lighter, louder & better.

Yep, that works. When I bought my Fender Rumble 500 combo at GC, I asked them when the next 15% off deal was coming up because that was when I would buy. They sales dude went to the manager's office and came back to tell me I could get the 15% off.

I have never paid full price, or even the full sale price for anything at Musicians Friend (not counting cables) as long as I am willing to call and ask, they have always given me at least a 10% discount. It is WELL worth it on a purchase such as powered speakers.

They even price matched, and threw an additional 15% off discount on a stupid cheap price for the Behringer XENYX X2442USB mixer that I have used at every gig, few that there have been, since November of last year (or was it December?).

FWIW, I used to have a pair of TS115As that sounded great. Had to sell them when a family member ran into an, uh, issue and needed money NOW. He repaid me but I never replaced them. I pressed my cheap monitors (Harbinger Vari V2112) into service. They have done the job admirably, especially considering the price point. I do miss the Harbingers though. They have more low mid that the Harbingers need more EQ tweaking to coax out...

Thread hijack alert, but...

I was in checking out new powered mains at my local GC last weekend and the sales dude was telling me that for most mains, the warranty was only for "non-commercial use", so if you gig with them it's worthless. I find that hard to believe, especially since the dude was talking about GC's "pro coverage", essentially a second warranty I could buy.

Anybody heard of anything like this before? I mean, how could you use PA systems other than commercially? I smell BS.

I wonder how he's defining "non-commercial use"? How do they expect that most or many buyers plan to use MI equipment? Luckily, I haven't had to use the warranty on any of the gear I've bought new over the years. Well, I had a B stock and a brand new Ampeg PF-800 go bad on me during the return period, so they just got returned with full refund. But no other gear where I had to test the parameters of a companies warranty.

Maybe he was just trying to push GC's extended warranty and does IT cover gear for such use? Does just using such gear at home for practice, in a commercial/working band, constitute "non-commercial use"? Just would want some clarification on that language. BTW, my Mackie mixer, JBL EON 10" and Alto TS212's, still running strong. Thanks for the heads-up.

Well, I still miss my Altos, although the Harbingers I have do what I need them to do, and they do it well. My band mates and I haven't gigged much at all since Hurricane Harvey, only 3 shows since the storm, and so price point is super important to us... And we would like dedicated monitors, and the Alto TX208 seems like an ideal match. Unlike many here, we don't do big gigs, and have no interest in doing so. We are aiming for good full sound for back yard / marina / barn parties, not ears bleeding in a large bar... To each their own though...

About to do a gig tonight (and Sat) with an Alto Pro Black 12" as one of our tops.. we're PA-poor at this point, so this was "borrowed".
QSC 15" sub under.. Tested last night and got the "balance" between the 2 set up.
Other "side" is a EV ETX18SP with a QSC 12.2 top...

Going to be interesting.. .as we don't do many venues where we provide PA, and this is NOT a matched set !!

In spite of having a PA at last night's gig that was tops (Alto pro black 12 and QSC 22.2) and subs (QSC 15" and EV 18), we got lots of compliments on the sound.
Round 2 tonight. Downbeat at 20:30.

The version 3 line is a nice upgrade from the 2. I have run the 12s against QSC K12s and they get nearly as loud....they have a bit of a mid scoop in tuning compared to the k12 which I find very flat sounding. The altos typically are run as monitors while the QSC are mains. But, I can swap them anytime and there is not an audible difference to the crowd after EQ adjustments. The QSC do get a bit louder, so if volume is an issue it is something to consider.

I'm quite sure QSC is the benchmark but not everyone can afford to pay $800 for a single 12 speaker! My band doesn't gig enough or pay enough. Alto is a legitimate compromise at a great price point. If they decide to step it up and add full DSP to their line, I'd consider them a true contender to the big boys.

At less than half the price, the Altos are perfect for most purposes. I have 3 TX8 for monitors, 2 of the TRS215 subs and 2 of the New 3 version 12s for monitors or mains if needed.
I had one of the 8s fail when a poor solder connection came loose. A 20 minute fix and good as new. No other issues with the altos. They are the best value in live sound IMO. Are the QSC a little better in sound and quality....probably. But more than twice as much better???? I don't think so :)
