Anybody using lightweight class D heads with big, heavy, old school(ish) cabs?

Ampeg PF350 setting on a pair of SVT15Es, I like it but am saving pennies for Mesa Subway 800+ I like big cabinets, but sold my SVT410HE because it was just too darned heavy.

I've used my WD800 with my Bag End cabs many times. They work well together.

TT800 with diesel 410, sounds great, and the cab lives in the jam room we get together in on Friday nites, so it never needs moved

Mesa D800 with an Ampeg 810 or 410HE. Both sound amazing!

Yep, I use my mesa WD800 with an ampeg 8x10 fridge occasionally. Sounds great.

Funny you mentioned it sounded sick .. The rehearsal studio had an Ampeg b2r with a Hartke 8x10 box. We are a loud band and I though I blew a speaker it was farting so much. I changed the head and used my WD800 and it kicked serious ass.. no more buzzing, I was impressed but not enough to lug an 8x10 around .. I'll stick to my Mesa 115.

I have a Hartke XL810 I found for $100.

Because I have it, I'm going to drag it out this summer just because.

I know my back and legs will pay for it.

Just wondering if it's a thing. I've been using my Traynor SB500h in various combinations with my 3 Bergantino cabs, 2 NV212s(alone and in tandem) and an NV215. I've really been enjoying the pairings. And because of TB generated GAS (probably only worsened by the server outage) I just pulled the trigger on a Tone Hammer 700 which will also see use with the aforementioned cabs.
I'm wondering if I'm unique in this approach. Here on TB most people seem to automatically pair their lightweight head with a lightweight cab, or two.
A small part of my thinking is that cabs are easier to move around in general as they usually just rest on the stage( I generally don't stack) While the heads go on top and lifting a heavy head onto a 215 ain't easy( esp my Classic 400). But mostly I just love my cabs and they make most any decent head sound good

I probably wouldn't push an 810 with a smaller class d amp like the trace Elliot Elf or something but the 800w Mesa has worked great no matter what cabs I use.

I have a Basson 2x10 that I think weighs 114 lbs. I mostly have it because no one will buy it. Anyway, I think it sounds great with either my Terror Bass or SVT-7 Pro, but i doubt that I'd take it anywhere. I also have two OBC-112's that together weigh less than half of what the Basson weighs.

I ran a WD800 and a D800+ into a Berg NV610 a few years ago. Both amps sounded great/huge through that cab (although for me the WD sounded greater). Of those 2, I ended up keeping just the WD800 and eventually also sold the NV610 as I realized I just did not need that much thump on stage anymore. Replaced the NV610 with an NV212t to keep that sealed cab thing available and I couldn't be happier with either the WD800 or my trusty Walkabout on top of that wonderful cab.

I have used my Mesa D800 into all sorts of old heavy cabinets and it makes most of them sing.

heck yeah, the only cabs I own are Bag End 15's. Granted They're small and easy to move one at a time, but they have 3/4" ply construction and heavy old school speakers, and every amp that comes into my studio or goes to a gig gets played through one or both. At this time, my only bass amps are class D, but I've had the speakers so long I know just how to drive them, sounds like you're in the same boat. Unless your back won't let you, sure, stick with the heavy stuff you know and don't be ashamed you're not throwing money around just because there are new shiny things out there. That said, those Trace Elliott 2x8's are intriguing... ahhh!!! Stop it! He says to himself...

Still have some heavy old school cabs at home, both sound great with my Ashdown CTM 30.

And, I would still use them, along with my GK Legacy 800.
