Anyone been involved in a car accident?

Hey there, everyone. So yesterday, I was involved in a car accident. I won't go into the details, but while we each did some wrong, I admit I was more at fault. No argument there. Both vehicles more or less done for. Either way, I just feel like such a dumb*ss and am just stressed out. I figured sharing might make me feel a little better. Luckily, both of us our fine...my insurance is just gonna go up and I have to pay a ticket.

So, I was just wondering if any of you fellow TBers have been involved in car accidents. I'm sure lots have as its pretty common, but I'd still like to hear. Thanks.

I've been in an accident that was my fault and I've been in a hit-and-run accident that wasn't my fault and the other driver got away.
When it comes to the traffic ticket, if your driving history is clean, you can plead no contest when the judge asks you how do you plead. Then, ask to take a driver's safety course, where completion of the course will result in you not getting charged. If your driving history is bad and you've already taken a driver safety course, well you'll have to accept the ticket and move on.

One time a drunk guy ran a stop sign at 55 mph and I T-boned him on my motorcycle. My brother, who was riding with me, spent the night in the hospital for observation. I spent 5 months in the hospital. I got all $15,000 of his insurance except for the $5,000 my attorney took and the $5,600 the Navy took (I was in the Marines at the time, and the Navy took the money for the time I spent in the ICU at a non-military hospital). I bought a new Plymouth Road Runner with the remainder - it was 1969.

I got into a pretty bad accident back in 2012. I was driving home from an out of town gig on the interstate when a semi began merging into my lane. I'm not sure if he didn't see me or if there was any motivation for him coming into my lane, but he forced me off the road and into the medium. According to one witness report, I flipped my Ford Explorer 7 times before I finally came to a halt. The truck was totaled, but I managed to NASCAR my out the window (the door was jammed) relatively unscathed. I do have some nasty scars on my left tricep from where my arm hit gravel/the road, but, otherwise, I was perfectly fine - minus the full-body pain I felt for the next several weeks. The really fortunate thing about the whole accident was that my friend wasn't with me. He came up to the gig with me but decided to stay in the city another day with the rest of my band. Had he been in the truck, he would have died as the passenger side got completely crushed during the "landing" of one of the flips.

Been in a few the one I remember most was a college drinking related mess. Me and some buddies were out drinking and one of the guys had a girlfriend who happened to be the concert master of the university orchestra. She didn't drink any alcohol that night at all so she was the DD. Well, about two blocks from the party she runs a red light and we got T boned pretty hard. Amazingly no one in either car was hurt. Filling out the accident form was a lot of fun while being plastered, took forever it seemedl

I've unfortunately have been in several accidents over the years. Some fender benders and a couple serious. The scariest accident was about '86 when my son and I got hit head on. He was about 7 years old and in the front seat of my '81 ford short bed. This truck was so high Mike had to climb the rear tire to get into the bed and then into the cab. Neither of us had seatbelts on and I just got done telling him to sit on his butt instead of his legs. We were 2 blocks from home when this guy driving this old Lincoln goes left of center and under my truck. Before we actually collided I already had 2 wheels on the grass and he swerved but it was to late. I stuck my hand out to try and catch my son but wasn't fast enough. I did catch his leg which saved him from the windshield. The truck went up in the air and came down just as my kid was sliding down the dashboard. He bloodied his face but no serious damage. My left front wheel and associated suspension parts were laying about 50' away. I believe the height of my truck saved both of us from serious injury. Though had he not have swerved he may have rolled the truck. Super lucky I guess. We ALWAYS used SEAT BELTS AFTER THAT.

I've been involved in several, but I was a passenger in all of them.

3 school bus crashes, 2 car crashes. The only person hurt in any of them was the driver of the car in the 1st school bus crash. He hit the bus pretty hard, from the side, into a front wheel well. The bus suffered some cosmetic damage, but his car was totaled. I think he broke an arm or a rib or something. I don't remember exactly, as it was like 25 years ago.

I've been involved in two serious auto accidents -- well, serious enough that my vehicle was totalled both times, miraculously nobody was hurt either time. Neither was my fault; first time, the brakes on an 18-wheeler failed and he plowed into a line of cars stopped in traffic, second time a couple drunk college punks ran a red light at 55mph and t-boned me as I went through the intersection. So it was very easy for me to live comfortably with the experience, but I can see how if that hadn't been the case it would be a bit of a hurdle to get past. Learn from the experience.

Interesting trivia: Both accidents occurred when I was returning from gigs! Cars were destroyed, but all my gear survived unscathed!
