and i dont mean when your lipstick smudged on the way to the gig ok ;)

i just saw on telly a tornado picking up a truck and spinning it around...

in aussie we usualy have floods and bush fires...

many many years ago fires went right through my suburb my family had to jump in our pool and keep dunking so our hair didnt catch fire as the flames licked all around us. Thinking your going to die aint much fun but we didnt have to much time to think about it.

When our Newcastle earth quake hit 20 odd years back i remember being in my car about 40 ks away and it was bouncing up and down, i had no idea what was happening as i was parked at a beach car park with my gf and thought some guy was pushing down the bumper bar...lol

how about you guys in the US?

Two earthquakes: the bay bridge collapse one was pretty bad. Fortunately my dad (working in SF) didn't head home early, or it could've been a hell of a lot worse. I remember being in the kitchen with my mom and brother. All of the sudden my mom started yelling at us "stop shaking the counter!" About two seconds later it registered that the counter top was anchored to the floor, ie- part of the house... needless to say we ran to a doorway away from the windows and other glass.

The other was like five years ago, and mainly hit silicon valley, but we did feel it in Santa Cruz. I happened to be working on my first computer build, so I had a video card in one hand, with a static wrist band clipped to a metal case. I was torn between running outside, or making sure my new computer didn't take a nose dive off my desk. Fortunately it was pretty minor out our way, because I had a death grip on my computer case. I wasn't about to let a couple grand explode all over the floor.

Other than that, just power lines down on hwy 17 every now and again due to gnarly storms, but that's nothing. The Japan quake tsunami didn't do much damage by the time it hit Santa Cruz, so that really doesn't count either I guess.

Floods way too frequently (Houston and Cape)
Hurricanes Katrina and Ike
Tornadoes in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Illinois, the most recent was last year when my car was parked at Lambert International Airport in St. Louis during that tornado.

All I'm missing is a tsunami, raining frogs, and locusts....

I was in Puerto Rico for Hurricane Marilyn, Hawaii for Hurricane Iniki, and in Japan for the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown.

I had a tornado come through a couple of years ago.
We were all working at my business and right when the storm sirens went off so did the roof of my building. No one was hurt but my business was shut down for six months.


In 1987 I had just got to work in Santa Fe Springs Ca. when the Whittier earthquake hit.
It took down most of the buildings on the block but our building stood strong. Everything on the shelf's came down and window broke.

In 1979 I was in the Navy and we were anchored off San Juan Puerto Rico when Hurricane David came. We had to weigh anchor and try to get out of it's path. It caught up. That was one heck of a boat ride.

Seems like no matter where I live Mother Nature seems to find me.

impressive....how close to a tornado have you been?

I went through a flood a few years ago.7 feet of water running down my street like a river. My SUV was completely submerged. lost pretty much everything I owned, aside from the majority of my gear, which luckily I was able to get into the attic before the water got too high. Had a dog and cat to worry about too, they made it, although they were pretty freaked out. Didn't have renter's insurance, but it wouldn't have covered flooding anyway.

Hurricane HUGO (South Carolina), Hurricane Bertha (North Carolina), Hurricane Fran (North Carolina), Hurricane Floyd (North Carolina), Hurricane Isabel (North Carolina),


A F3 Tornado in Pennsylvania not sure on the year but I was about 11 and it came uncomfortably close to us.

Hurricanes in Virginia, Alex/Charley/Gaston/Frances & Ivan all over a couple months in 2004
and then Hurricane Irene last year.

Only a few of these were really bad, Hugo scared the crap out of my entire family who was vacationing in Myrtle beach and decided to ride it out. BAD CHOICE.
Floyd & Isabel were pretty bad. Nothing to run from though.

And although Last year's Isabel was not one of the strongest it effected me worse as I had to clean up here in Virginia and then spend 2 weeks in Washington North Carolina helping all of my family recover down there. They were hit really bad.

And then last years Virginia Earthquake, Which was barely a tremor as far as I'm concerned. Of coarse many Virginian's were terrified from it.

This is the price you pay for living on the coast your entire life. The mid westerners have Tornado alley we have Hurricane central with at least one or two bad storms a year.

Northridge 1994
Sierra El Mayor (Baja California) 2010

These are most of the ones I've felt. I was in San Jose in the 1989 earthquake, and that was the most violent shaking I've felt. The 1992 Landers shook the longest, and the Sierra El Mayor came in third.

I've been evacuated for one of the big fires we had in SoCal - 2007 I think. I helped fight the fires (as a communications liaison) here in 1970.

About a half dozen hurricanes in Florida. Three of them in one month. That sucked

The whole state caught fire one year and got within about 500 yards of my house. That sucked.

The eye of hurricane Dora went right over top my house in New Jersey way back in '64. That sucked for my parents. I thought it was cool as heck.
