Anyone else here who cant play "Guitar" AT ALL?

I wish I could play guitar.

I think I will make it my new years resolution to learn how to play the thing. Being able to strum chords on an acoustic would be good enough for me.

I started out as a drummer and still play the drums. I always loved the sound of the bass guitar in my head or on the monitors. I played drums to the bass player! I took up bass because of the sweet sound and I guess I am just a rhythm and back beat guy! On guitar, I only know how top play "smoke on the water" and a few ACDC riffs. Every time I pick up a guitar and start trying to play, someone yells in a panic for me to put it down and stop it! In addition I play, pick and hit it like a bass player and drummer!

In addition .... The strings are just too bloody small for my big mitts!

I've actually been playing guitar for 18-19 years now but the bass only 8 years. I've always had a knack at playing anything really but took up guitar in school because no one else in my little circle of friends played. I actually got pretty good at acoustic and recorded some stuff on a few artist's cd's but was never comfortable enough to become a professional at it.

One day my church really needed a bassist badly and no one would humble themselves to put down their guitar and play bass. I, reluctantly at first, agreed to the task since I knew the pastor's son, who was the acoustic player, would never stoop to that level. Once I got behind the wheel I felt like I actually had control of where the song was going and could feel things develope in the song and actually make things develope in the song instead of just accompanying them. I had more control over the dynamics and instanly fell in love with the instrument.

I honestly believe that the two instruments compliment one another. I've learned so much about harmony and scales playing guitar and transferred them to my bass playing and vice versa with my understanding of rhythm and root notes to guitar. I'm a better overall musician now by playing both. Now I'm asked to play both bass tracks and guitar tracks on people's recordings and can give lessons on both instruments as well. It really broadens a musician's horizons.

I studied 3 years of classical guitar, have played guitar in a few bands and also play mandolin and cavaquinho.

I played the guitar for about 10 years before I made the switch. I am better on the guitar than on the bass.

I'm pretty good at guitar, but bass is my niche.

I could hold ground as a guitarist in a band if necessary, possibly even play some simple leads, but prefer bass over guitar.

I pick up my brother's guitars every now and then, but I can barely play them. I plan over the course of the next year that after I purchase my next bass, I'm going to buy a decent acoustic guitar to learn how to play the instrument. A number of guitarists already have a big influence on me musically (Robert Fripp and Pat Metheny to name a few).

I can play guitar... I'm not terribly good at it, but then I'm not much better at bass either. For that matter, I've played guitar for longer than bass. I could probably hold my own playing rhythm guitar in a band.

Not bad guitarist. Still love to blow off steam with the Les Paul through a cranked Vox amp. Occasionally swap off with the guitarist, and neither of us embarrasses ourselves.

But much prefer playing bass. Waaay more fun.

Nope, no desire to play that cheese-grater stringed thing. I love the bass, and if I have to play something else I've always got my other instruments - drums, percussion (latin and brazilian), keys, and some trombone and cello.

I'm getting almost OK at guitar, but in my own sort of way. I wouldn't be able to play lead in a band, but I could be a decent enough rhythm guitarist (depending on the context).

I am playing guitar on both of the tracks that have guitar, but those parts aren't brain surgery.

I can't lead worth a darn but I can play some jazzy stuff, ballad stuff, and heavy stuff.

EDIT: Those are basement recordings done with some mics and a GuitarPort.

I suck at it, can't play for the life of me, the only thing I might be able to do is tap and play the starting of Classical Gas on a Classical guitar.

I can't even play the bass yet! Just got it and I'm trying to teach myself with books. I can how ever play the drums, been playing off and on for 40 years.

My chord progression are uncreative and unoriginal. My solo's are not impressive either. However I play rock music so I don't have to be creative, original or impressive

When I write, I almost always do it on guitar. Then when the guitar riff is down, I write my bass parts around it (and the drums).

I don't know a lot of chords, but I know a lot of metal "tricks," like palm muting, pinch harmonics, tremolo picking, tapping, etc. It's so much easier to do that stuff on a guitar. Guitards have no idea how easy they have it
