Anyone else in Austin preparing for F1 weekend?

Gathering up supplies and entertainment like I'm about to be hit by a natural disaster. :crying: Our lovely city can barely handle the traffic on a normal weekend, much less one where hundreds of thousands of extra people are coming.

Traffic was bad from 2000-2005 when I was in college a little north of Travis Co. and was partying/playing there all the time.
I shudder to what it is now on a regular basis, and what it will be this weekend... :lol:

130 should be fun to get on and get up and go though.

It's bad. Bad bad bad. I'm glad that I work at home. It used to be that you could sorta predict when I35 would get bad, normal routine rush hour times... now it's just jammed up, stopped dead at all hours, with no definable cause except too many people.

that's pretty much what i've heard lol.
quite honestly that's why i don't like going over there anymore. as you said, i'd drive down on Saturdays to check out the GC and Bass Emporium or whatever and if you left at a reasonable hour and waited ALL day to drive back north you'd be fine, but yeah now i hear it's just total chaos all the time. the infrastructure and ability to get around town was in no way ready for the population surge that hit the area.

Lotta cool stuff to do in D/FW, Austin and (sorta) San Antone.

Houston is an ok place to live (I live north of there, and def not in Harris County) as it's a pretty huge job market. If I could pick anywhere I'd probably be up West towards Ft. Worth.

Was looking through Ferrari and Macca's walkthrough pics and the like from today and the track looks just awesome. So many elevation changes and chances for overtaking. Will be my first F1 race. Totally psyched.

It's become a bit of a hobby of mine to find quick routes through town, I live south and go up north all the time, and I've found a few that work. Basic rule is this: avoid 35 at all costs.

Any of you know the schedule? Thing is, I'm doing a 5-9 gig out in Round Top tomorrow and I usually go out the Bastrop-La Grange way....meaning by the airport and the track traffic.

If I'm leaving @ 2:00 and coming back through there say 11:00-midnight, would that make it so I'm heading out while everybody's already at the track and coming back after they've left?

Or just go out the Elgin-Giddings way.
