Anyone else into automatic wristwatches?

Been a watch collector for over 20 years. You thought bass gas was bad, these little gems are really addicting. Much like my bass gear my modest watch collection seems to have settled to a point that leaves me very satisfied. Also, like wine, bourbon, or cigars, they don't have to be expensive either. In fact, one of my real joys is building custom one offs using Seiko diver OEM & aftermarket parts. The assembly is as fun as the final results.

Those are great. I’ll definitely check out Longines and Hamilton. I have some nicer watches… a couple that my wife bought me early in our marriage. They’re not hugely expensive but they hold big sentimental value.

I’ve been looking at a couple of Tag Heuers as well as Sinn, Tudor… etc. I have larger wrists so I’m leaning toward 42mm+ watches where I can. A Tag Carrera is at the top of my list. Eventually I’d like to navigate my way into a Submariner. But that’s quite the undertaking if I’m wanting avoid the grey market.

I also like your leather bands. That angled driver’s watch is awesome. I’ll checkout the watch forum (lurk & learn…lol). I appreciate the heads up.

I can't say enough good things about Tudor & Sinn. Both brands punch way above their weight. Like you, 42mm is my sweet spot.

My current everyday watch is one I’ve had for 25 years; a Swiss Army Victorinox Chrono (a gift from the wifey on our 1st anniversary). It’s 40mm and it looks decent on my wrist. Anything I purchase from here on out will be bigger though.

With large wrists, maybe also check out Panerai.

Nah, if you are going to get a unique watch, get a unique watch. This belonged to my grandfather. Still works.

Argh don't get me back into this !
I'm not that old, 44, but I have had my watch era, my suits/shirts/shoes/cufflinks (my god, wearing t shirts every day now ) era, my bicycle era, my whisky era, my basses era... Thanks god I am not very rich, I have a wife and kids, and I'm reasonable, so I have way more spent time on forums and geeked the hell out of these topics than really collected them.
My favorite and daily watch is now a very practicle and sober automatic german "sport" watch : Archimede outdoor protect 39. It fits my smallish wrist well, and I don't like leather straps anymore, it smells too fast with me .
This one killed my gas and is ageing very well, even with an active lifestyle.

My wife and I were driving back from Philadelphia today (we saw Twenty One Pilots in concert last night). We stopped at the Christiana Mall in Wilmington, DE to visit the Tag Heuer store. After trying on a bunch of watches (ranging from $3,800 to $24,000… shew!), I ended up with this beautiful Carrera Chronograph. And since we were in Delaware, it was tax free. Quite the savings!! I think this is the perfect watch to start my new hobby.

I hit it off with the sales guy. He threw in a Tag Heuer hat and a bottle of Moet & Chandon champagne, just because.

I once had a friend who traveled overseas quite a bit bring me a pretty fair fake Rolex Daytona. Of course, the dead giveaway was it ticked and the second hand did as well instead of the trademark Rolex smooth, endless sweep around the face.

I wore it for a while (at least until the North Florida heat and humidity turned that wrist green daily . . . . ), and of course, someone asked, 'Ooohhh, is that a Rolex?' NOTE: This was the 80's and you saw lots of Rolexes in those Miami Vice days . . . .

I replied I wished it was, but no, it was a POlex. 'Polex? I never heard of those.' I said it's what you buy when you're to PO to buy a ROLEX.

Nice! Great watch, and I like that TAG boutique. I've been there, and I also hit it off with the sales guys. I told them I wasn't going to buy anything that day, but they were excited to show me several of their models anyway. I loved a couple of the chronos.

Another shop in the Christiana Mall, Janvier, is a Seiko Luxe dealer, which means they carry King Seiko and other $1k+ models that aren't available to regular Seiko dealers. Also nice folks, and definitely worth a visit if you're into Seiko.

Gotta love the lack of sales tax in Delaware. I worked there full-time for 15 years, and bought lots of my bass and guitar gear down there. I've been working there again (part-time) for a couple of years, and I regularly hit the Wilmington GC, which has an excellent used selection.

I've always liked automatics (i.e. self winders, not battery powered) but never did much about it. Recently I discovered that there's a vibrant market in economical automatics. I've been wanting to put the two good watches my late wife gave me away as keepsakes, so the timing of this realization was good. I picked up a few new watches using a slug of credit card loyalty points I had that were redeemable at Amazon.

I've decided to concentrate on Seiko automatics with the 4:00 position stem, they are decent quality and reasonably priced. I have four already and will probably stop there. Probably.

Seiko makes a nice watch. I have a similar valued Tissot chronograph that was a retirement gift on my first retirement 12 years ago. . This was after 40 years of going through a bunch of Timex winders.

I can't remember why, but I tried to get into watches a couple of years ago. I learned two things.
One, I can't stand the feeling of a big heavy watch on my wrist. It just feels funny, even if it is better looking for going out.
Two, they have barely any utility and are hard to read. I like my digital G-Shock so I can shift to military time, have a timer, have UTC time set on a different setting, and the band never gets icky from my sweat.
I bought a nice Tissot wrist watch with a leather strap for wearing out.

There are as many hardened G Shock fans as any other brand or reference. The best watch is the one that gets the job done for you.

I'm not really into that brand either, it was just a good digital watch that I could find. They have ones that cost crazy amounts. I think the one I got is $50-$80. Its only whiz bang feature is the screen acts as a charger so I don't have to change the battery.
I bought I Citizen metal watch that had that feature too. The thing is just so dang heavy.

I went to another store (Ratcliffe Jewelers??) that had Cert Pre-Owned Rolex, Tudor, Panerai and Breitling. That was fun. I must have missed Jangier. I guess next time… lol.

Speaking of Seiko, I picked this up yesterday at a local jeweler in my hometown. It’s a Limited-Edition Seiko Prospex King Samurai PADI Diver. Nothing like the prices at Tag Heuer, but an interesting watch, nonetheless. And the cost was about 1/2 of what I see them selling for online. I’ve always had a thing for Seiko wristwatches. This one kind of jumped out at me.
