This post wins on two levels: great example of a coffee table bass, and one of the best coffee mugs I have ever seen...

A non painted bass with Only wood and Fancy figured wood "like a fancy coffee table". Extra things like scrolls, single cuts are extra credit! Haha

here's my new Fodera. Oozing with coffee tableness!

Now that looks like a coffee table you'd get at some fancy pants upscale NYC store. Mine are probably more like the fine finishes found at Walmart

I guess I do. Although, I've never heard fancy wood tops referred to as coffee table basses. Some of you guys must have some real expensive coffee tables.

The two coffee tables in my house would be described as standard MIM Fenders.

Aside from plain ole Black, I'm not a big fan of solid color finishes (though White Spectors look great).

decades ago I did....since then, no....I have an appreciation for them (I guess my USA Peavey Cirrus counts as one) but I no longer go ballistic ga ga when in their presence....There are plenty of factory bolt-on basses Id rather have than re-acquiring either Alembic that Ive owned

I didn't know the coffee table designation, but I have one. It's a RondoMusic.com Hadean 24" scale poly string bass uke that I had Eric's Guitar add a pickguard covered with burl veneer to simulate a single cut/whale hump style, including the headplate. I labelled it a Narwhalele, I like the whale hump name, to me it's not derogatory, it's aptly descriptive.

I played a coffee table bass in a punk band for a decade. I don't believe in context as far as aesthetics go. It's ergonomics and tone for me. So I'm building 2 new bordwells. How would these hybrid tops classify? They're not painted, but they're not just wood.

a coffee table is no place for a bass, it could easily fall off and get broken. Put it back in its case when your done with it.
