What defines whether a bass is a furniture bass or as a car bass?

1) Color...Seafoam Green, Fiesta Red, Ocean Turquoise are all car colors from the heyday of American cars.
2) Finish...all quilted finishes or natural finishes are furniture

I get so damned tired of the coffee-table comments from rednecks in our area. They think instruments should look like race-cars or something.
They simply will not concede that less finish actually sounds better.
However, those who build them know!

That may be a holdover from the old days of Fender Automotive Colors that folks are hanging on to
