Anyone else like “coffee table” Basses?

I used to call them "furniture basses". I prefer the workbench basses. One of the reasons I always liked Wals was that they were a bit of both: all the screws they used made them "workbench-y".

Is that a Yamaha TRBX 605? How does it works for you? I've been behind a 604 for a while, ended up buying a totally different thing (Ibanez SRH500), but still gassing for it.
Didn't liked demos on Youtube though, they all sounds a bit "plastic", but reviews are great.

What defines whether a bass is a furniture bass or as a car bass?

Every bass brings something different to the table but the TRBX604 takes the medal for "most versatile bass" I've ever owned. I love the tone (with DR Sunbeams). I love the weight and I love the fact that it has a battery indicator light and still plays in passive if the battery dies. Just a really nice instrument.

I love both coffee table basses and vintage basses. What can I say...

Same here. Out of eleven I have only one that involves body color (Sunburst not withstanding)
and it's an '88 MMSR Blueburst. Something about exquisite wood grains does it for me.

Yes it is and I find it to be quite good. I had another one before but this one just sounds better for some reason. Lots of punch. Feel-wise they are amazing basses. Definitely try one.

The only thing I lament about the Yamaha line is they moved away from the Nathan East-era body styles. The TRBX series are excellent instruments, worth every penny and more, but I just can't get past the hybrid of the TRB and the RBX. I don't have anything against extreme offsets per se, I think the BTBs are some of the sexiest instruments ever made, but the RBX, and their hybrid into the current TRBX, just doesn't float my boat.

I have some Taylor coasters; they are the sound hole cutouts that Taylor repurposes, being the environmentally conscious company that they are.

Now, if only they made a good sounding guitar.............

I appreciate them, and they're nice to look at but they usually come in weird shapes that I can't bond with.. Give me a p or a j style one and I'd be happy.

I got a couple of flame maple tops if those count.
