Anyone else like “coffee table” Basses?

I really, really dig the pickup combo on the fretted.

It's a Nordstrand BigSplitMan paired with their nP5. It nails the Pbass sound. The BigSplitMan (when set parallel) is in the Stingray ballpark but has its own vibe and being able to split to the front or back coil adds more versatility, including a PJ sound.

Nice, thanks! And glad heavy blue asked about the MM/P as that caught my eye too - a seemingly rare combo. Last I checked, I believe it just possible to do and maintain the optimal bridge distance to each.

Peavey T-40 is the quintessential coffee table bass IMO, and I think they're pretty cool. Sadly, I haven't come across one for a reasonable price.

Nope, never liked them. I prefer basses that look like vintage cars. Sonic Blue and lots of chrome is more my thing.

Some beautiful basses here, I love the look and feel of a coffee table bass, also referred to as hippie sandwiches. I just get a little nervous when I see a cup of coffee on the coffee table bass.

I solved that problem by getting rid of the coffee table.

I love them but then again I have a fascination with woods. My uncle did a lot of woodworking and so I was able to see all kinds of different wood types and have an appreciation for them.
I don't currently own a coffee table bass but I could see one in my future.

I love hippy sandwich/coffee table basses. My main player is an oil finished Warwick Streamer Stage I, not really super coffee table, but some purple heart in the laminated neck, but no figured top.

The only ones i have any experience with are the Vega copies of the Martin solid-body bass and the Daion Power mar XX series. Fine instruments all, but I bought them as instruments and not for their coffeetable-ness.

a coffee table is no place for a bass, it could easily fall off and get broken. Put it back in its case when your done with it.

There's about 1/8" overlap between the traditional Pbass and Stingray pickup placement. On my bass the P is exactly where it should be and the MM is nudged back towards the bridge just slightly.

Flamed redwood top, maple neck with walnut stringers and graphite reinforcement rods, alder body, pao ferro fretboard.

Not a super hippy sandwich, but it only weighs 8 lb 5 oz.

1999 ish Peavey Cirrus, but I call it a Mississippi Alembic. 18 volt, all active pickups and three band pre. 35" scale. These are underrated, undervalued gems.

Came with the original hard shell case and case candy, plus a couple Peavey hats. She was a case queen. Just needed new, light strings, batteries and a set up.

Maple over alder with wenge board. 7 lb 5 oz.
