Anyone Else Really Tired of Adele?

Adele is enjoying the success that Amy Whinehouse should have enjoyed.

No Amy, no Adele. Really that easy.

Dusty Springfield showed that a white girl could sing with soul way before Amy ever did; and that first Joss Stone record probably had something to say about it too. Don't forget Duffy. There have been several UK chicks with big voices singing stuff like this that did fine without needing Amy Winehouse to pave any way for them.

I never said there was NO hype. It's just that (and I'll quote myself from my latest post) "What I mean is, she doesn't need a ridiculously choreographed super-colossal light show with 50 back-up dancers plus Auto-Tune and/or lip-synching to get people to pay attention to her." Nor did she need a major physical makeover.

I appreciate your point and agree she is genuinely talented. And in the cynically choreographed, painfully auto-tuned, completely unadventurous illusion the entertainment industry as a rule presents that genuine talent wins my sincere admiration. But Adele's success is not "about her" as you say any more than Britney Spears' success is "about" her. It's about an image presented to the public in a coercive manner that the public will consume. Nobody gets that big, that fast without it. The nightclubs are full of people just as talented and just as "real" who will never see that fame. What's the difference between an Adele and a nobody?

You may like the Adele package you've been sold but it is a calculated package nonetheless and while she's talented she's nothing special. There's an Adele in every big city.

There is a Adele in every big city, but it doesn't mean we show throw rocks at one who happens to hit it big at basically what we are all trying to do, make a little cash at our art.
Remember it was Adele's second album that hit it big, a lot of people didn't know she was before last year.

That's throwing rocks?

Rhianna really jumps to mind... zero talent there.

I long for the day that singers and - gasp- musicians are lauded in pop culture instead of the performing artists surrounded by legions of ridiculously dressed dance troupes gyrating to random sounds. Robyn Fenty, er, I mean Rhianna, certainly jumps to mind.

I had the displeasure of watching R twice this year (some awards show my wife was watching. Family time. ) It was mind numbingly bad. Bad as in I-really-thought-it-was-a-parody bad.

Adlle? Adelle isnt in that league. I'm about all done with her for this year and its only june, but I dont listen to the radio much so her and I can get along in this world.

right on!

I dont doubt that

Again, I think she's a very good singer, but I'm not blown away. The bottom line is Adele is a full-figured young woman who doesn't gyrate on stage half-naked, who relies on her own vocals, and yet has become even more successful than performers like Rhianna and Nicky Minaj. Of course there's hype behind Adele, but nothing like the total gloss-over (including doctoring the vocals) that most young female chart-toppers get...and need.

The cover bands I play with introduce me to the newer material and I only have to listen to it long enough to learn it

This, 100%. Absorbing a certain amount of current (s)hit music is the cost of doing business for being in a steadily working cover band, but when I'm not doing "research" I'm either listening to the music I actually like via Pandora, or I'm not listening to anything.

It's really not that sad, it's entertainment.
People in general are looking at it because they want to be entertained in order to be entertained certain feelings need to be stimulated.
People are relatively forgiving if someone is not pleasing to the eye but still can sing incredibly well, look at that Susan Boyle lady, absolutely unattractive but has the voice of an angel and people are willing to look past her looks to appreciate her talent.

Same goes for someone that looks gorgeous and is so pretty it makes your chest hurt to watch them do anything, but can't sing very well.
People are willing to overlook a bit of a lack in talent to appreciate an aesthetically pleasing person, or someone who offers a killer personality.

But if you have absolutely zero talent, can't sing to save your life, a dry personality, can't captivate people's interest no matter what and on top of that look funny too what's sad about the fact that people don't want that in their face for their entertainment? Entertainment is supposed to please certain senses and in order to do that certain things need to be going on in one area or another.

And hell even that's not true and it's further proof that our world deserves a little pat on the back for being caring, look at William Hung.
No talent, no looks, in fact horrible talent, horrible looks and the guy was selling thousands of albums and had a huge following after his appearance on TV.

People as a whole are not as bad as some would like to portray them to be. Give them a little credit.

It seems to be the reverse situation ... you don't have any talent or not enough talent so you rely only on your look and all the stupid things you do. Rihanna is the perfect exemple.

Every time I heard something about her is because she got too drunk, battle, naked pic, overall bad choices for people to gossip. It is never about her "music". I think that if she only rely on music we wouldn't have of heard ever, but since she does all those stupid thing to make people talk ... she is still there.

... after writting all this, talent doesn't sell as well as generic talentless music with a chick that do everything immaginable to draw attention. When you have talent you end up in prog-rock, metal, jazz or in classical music.

I think a lot of it goes back to Madonna. Very marginal vocal ability, dog-homely face (IMO) and a nasty personality... but a decent bod, great dancer, amazing intuition as far as marketing and material, and always puts on a hell of a show. I'm still not sure how she got as big as she did but it does prove that musical ability per se is only a part of the equation.

Doesn't have anything to do with the music played, it is all about the image. I don't think she can play any musical instrument. Musical ability seems to be the last element of the equation. the music is more about a tool to sell your image, cloths, perfume or a even a personality ( like rap is more about selling you a personnality that reflect by your attitude and your cloth than anything else ) than selling art and encourage kid to developpe musical talent.
