Anyone else totally happy with their basses?

For the first time in my life I'm at a point where I don't want to buy any more basses.

It doesn't mean that other basses don't appeal to me - I saw on FB that Carey Nordstrand is doing a small run of Nordy nP4s and I'd love one. And the new Stingray Specials look/sound/feel great. But I won't be getting either because I have everything I need.

Honestly it's kind of a weird feeling. I think I've always looked at my basses and thought if only it was lighter, or punchier or had a different neck profile or was a different color etc. But now after years and years I don't have any complaints.

Now I just need to practice/gig more.

How about you? Where are you at in your journey to find the perfect bass or basses for you?

Up until the last few years (I've been playing since middle school and I'm 42) I never even had a lifer. Now I have four. The closest I had was my first bass (a very used Guild B301) that I kept for sentimental reasons until the neck was too twisted to fix.

Honestly I'm jealous of people that find their soulmate instrument(s) early on.

Just one for me & I'm completely happy with it!

I love the idea of having a single bass but I don't know if I could ever pare down to just one. What have you got?

I bought a Lull P4 about 2004.

I'm a sucker for a P with a Jazz neck. I don't think I've ever tried the reverse. And Lull makes a hell of a Pbass. I can see why you're happy with that setup.

I think if money were no object I'd just keep buying basses. But since I don't have an unlimited supply of cash I'm glad that I love what I have.

I would love to say yes, but I'm not.

My main players need some work to get to where I will be perfectly happy, notably a fret level job on both.

Besides that, I still have a Stingray I'm very much wanting, and another P bass set up to what I need for a tribute band. I would add a Rickenbacker, but I have a '73 indeed to restore.

As odd as this sounds, that's about as close to perfect as I have been in a long time. In fact, I'm actually thinking about selling some to finance the P bass I want.

After I add those, I truly don't have any reason to expand my collection.

I’m very happy with my 2 basses. I returned to playing bass a little over 4 hrs ago after almost 15 yr hiatus. I was only playing guitar during that time. I got totally bored with guitar and realized that in my heart I was a bass player .

A lot had changed and it took me going through a lot of basses to figure out what I wanted tone wise and what felt good in my hands.

I found the perfect fit for me 4 & 5 string. Recently bought a new amp.
Found the right strings. No desire for anything else. I’m content. Feels good to appreciate what I have.

i'm right where you are: completely satisfied with the status quo! i arrived at that place around 6-7 years ago. i still 'mess' with the ones i play...but i've got everything i need!

I have issues. I'm never content with anything...it's gotten me into situations all my life. But not all bad.

Happy with one: 1983 Ibanez Musician 924DS P/J.

Passive/active 3 band eq, 24 frets, 1.5" nut width, dead ground wounds still with a little spank left in them and a high-mass bridge with a bit of foam.

Kinda heavy (around 9 lbs) but with a 4" wide padded strap, it works out fine. Stored in a blonde Fender repro case.

Pick or pluck, with the 3 band eq and a Bro-ton always on HPF, I can beat any rig into submission.

Almost. I only need one more bass to make my herd complete; a true hollow body (not semi-) 4-string passive 34" scale bass. Like, say this one -
- but left handed. And, I would be ecstatic if I woke up tomorrow morning and found that my Epi EA-260 had turned into a lefty - and saved me the trouble of having it converted. They made the EA-250 companion guitar as a lefty (I have one), but, as usual, not the bass - far as I can tell...

Yep! My Two and a Half Music Men! The one in the middle is a PJ body I built (thread) to fit a SR5 neck. The Bongo is my go-to for hi-fi EDM & synth stuff, and the PJ (passive) has become my go-to for rock. The PJ kinda kicked my Sterling out of the main rotation and it's giving me the itch to perhaps mod the Sterling. I want to find a new use for the Sterling because I don't want to sell it.

Honestly, my issue has always been that I'm super picky. I don't even like flipping gear and going through a bunch of different basses, amps, pedals etc. I just could never settle on what I wanted. Which is why it makes me so happy now so love my gear.
