I love the PJ with the SR5 neck. My only guitars are EBMM. They make fantastic necks for guitars and basses.
I like them all very much. The hardest part is determining which one I wanna play. I had about $1200 to spend recently and couldn't find anything near that range that tempted me enough to pull the trigger.
Now I'm just waiting for my unicorn to pop up for sale somewhere...the Epiphone Vinnie bass. It will likely underwhelm, I've just wanted one for years.

It's funny but you're one of the TBer's I think of in terms of finding THE bass (or basses) because I know how much you love your Zon. Cool to hear that you got a fretted as well. I'd love to see pics.

I’ve had a few and it smokes all of them. None of the other ones (‘77, ‘81, ‘94) had such an aggressive, powerful Rick sound. This sounds like I always wanted one to sound... not saying I’m not seriously thinking about dropping in a Nordy to get some more heat from the neck pickup, but it just kills the way it is.

Sounds like you found the right one. It's amazing how every bass is a little bit different. And the Nordstrand Ric pickup definitely sounds like a great upgrade to an otherwise great bass. If you do go that route I'd love to hear your thoughts.
After 20 years of settling on never spending more than $700 on a bass, I have recently picked up a American fender elite jazz V.....and I can now say I'm content. There isn't one thing I would change, or upgrade on this bass, it is pure perfection in my eyes.
I kinda am now, I think. In fact I need to get off my duff, take some pics and post some basses up for sale sometime soon. I had a brief and ill-fated go at “collecting” and now have a handful of basses when I really only play two and keep another around for sentimental value.
Yes, and I've been there for a few years now, so I'm pretty confident it'll stay that way for the foreseeable future. Four basses...

I just posted an NBD thread on it. Not a Zon - as little as I play fretted, it's an inexpensive Yamaha and it plays great.

I think being happy with one's bass, basses, can be difficult to achieve, and this is because it seems to be the case that people buy basses for different reason. In my short time on TB I've discerned 3 types of bass players, that are as follows:
1. The Toolmaster
This the player that sees the bass as a tool to accomplish a task - typically to pay the bills. Such players will be happy when their toolbox of basses can serve all their needs.
2. The Dedicated
This refers to bass players that are searching for that one bass that will be the one. They want to bond with that bass and perfect their playing via a glorious union with that one bass, or type of basses. They are looking for their soulmate bass and when they do they will be happy.
3. The Collector
This is the person that is a collector at heart, and therefore collects basses as a hobby. Geddy admitted to now being such a player. This player will never be happy. There is always something to collect!
We may all fit these categories to some extent, but we are all also likely predominantly of one type. I'm of the dedicated type. I like 500/1s so now I have 4 and the 5th is on the way (a little collector?).

Totally happy with both my Ps, and my Musicmaster.
Not 100 percent happy with my Jazz, due to the severe string volume imbalance. But other than that, it's great.
Not at all happy with my two fretlesses, because I don't play fretless any more. Plus they are both ugly IMO (natural finishes over ash).
