Anyone ever chromed an instrument ?

Hey everyone, has anyone ever chromed an instrument ? or know of anyone who has ? I know Matt Bellamy of Muse has a few chrome custom mansons.

I saw a line of "metal" guitars at NAMM this year. They were literally made of metal, no wood in the construction.*** Edit... the necks appear to be wood. :-)

Which for me, would be a great cause for concern regarding electrical insulation.

Insulation degrades over time so whatever they're doing to make their guitars not become lightening-rods-of-death for the guitarist better last a long time.

They were cool. Not something I'd want to try personally. They looked to be of hollow contruction (for weight and production costs I'm sure).

whats next the carbon fiber bass? LOL

Or graphite or something like that... LOL.

And downstairs at NAMM you always have some "entertaining" booths. Like the guy with square drumsticks (which not being a drummer I didn't know what the big deal was, but a drummer friend of mine said they wouldn't work).

Anyway, there was a guy selling actually quartz and semi-precious stones that he'd cut into inlays for your guitar.

I actually thought that might be cool. But the guy kept talking about the mystical aspects of the stones and how they resonated harmonics on a different plane of existance. Nice guy but talk to me about the tonal qualities I can hear... LOL.

Anyway. The metal guitars had a really cool look. Like old tin toy cars and trucks from the 1920's and 30's.

I didn't see any basses, just guitars.

Related, Fender Custom Shop bronzed a strat for Robbie Robertson back in '76. It was too heavy to be used for more than a couple of songs at a time but it sounded great. Some people say he looked like a tool playing it but I think that was for a different reason... Back to the main topic!
