Anyone ever experienced anger management?

I'm getting to the point where daily I find myself having to stifle to get through the ......generic issues of the day. Yea there are some moments I'm happy. There's also some points where it takes seconds to reach the boiling point.

For a while I thought it was circumstance causing it, now I'm starting to think its me.

Anyone?

No personal experience here, but I had a co-worker who went through mandated anger management classes awhile back. She said it helped quite a lot, but it was really important to keep an open mind about it. Almost everybody there was there because they *had* to be, not because they *wanted* to be, so there was a lot of mumbling and grumbling and cynicism and sarcasm from the attendees. She was able to look at it differently: "I have to be here, but I can choose to make this a positive experience."

We never really talked in depth about it, but she did act differently at work after that.

Companies that offer anger management courses probably also have self-assessments. Naturally, they're apt to be biased, but they're probably also free. :)

You hit the nail on the head.

When you think it's an outside cause you have an anger problem.
One needs to practice having control over their emotions . No ones perfect ,especially me.

It's a journey. Keep trying. Good luck

my old man--who was, BTW, one of the smartest people i've ever known, would have said:

"if you think you need it...you need it"

it's like being an alcoholic...if you think you might be an alcoholic, you're an alcoholic.

look at it this way...what have you got to lose?...except, of course, the price (if any) of the counseling.

you already have an advantage over the people who are ordered to be there....they don't see it, and grumble and fight it...you, however, will have approached it voluntarily, and have an open mind about it....

go for it...what can it hurt?

I've recently found that Yoga works wonders for me. That, and copious amounts of weed. :hiding::D

The former I'm not even considering...I go to a gym enough to know I have enough trouble trying to bust my **** to get fit enough to even consider attending yoga.

The latter I've been considering for a long time now as .....I've put other vices aside.

Self-management is a big one....counseling I don't know if it'll work, honestly. I did counseling just for mental issues a few years ago and all it confirmed is I'm a special unique snowflake and I have the memory of an elephant (and I probably hold the angry memories the longest). I'm an imploder....which to some degree is a good thing.

Maybe there's books out there. Environmental factors do play in, IE having an "us vs them" mentality at work (which a lot if ppl here push on each other).

I'm mainly concerned with when I'm out of the place I want to be, how I won't carry the anger with me. Or if "magically" if I get a different job or thing going, if I'll just forget all about it.

I've had to learn it, but never took a seminar. Yup, look out for triggers, or button pushers. The saddest example I ever saw was my neighbor who was telling me her son had anger management issues and she was taking him to classes. Meanwhile, you could hear her screaming at the top of her lungs at both her kids to get stuff done around the house. Poor girl. Wonder where he learned that behavior ?

I almost had to take anger management at work. There were some nurses that used to get really mean and I made the mistake of yelling back. I was held to a higher standard and lost out on a raise on the last year they gave out raises.

Sure, they were mean and deserved it. Life isn't fair. Really, if I lose my temper or behave, nothing is going to change. By that logic, no reason to let the temper run wild.

Maybe you should try to figure out what you are actually angry about. Sounds simple, but it requires serious contemplation and/or therapy.
