Yep. It's a conundrum.
Some are primarily tools, some have great sentimental value, and most share some aspects of both categories. Only a few are tools with no sentimental attachment and no real function at this point in my "career", and those are the ones currently slated to go up for sale when I'm not too lazy to endure the hassle. The rest are either my primary tools for specific jobs I still do, or they have too much sentimental value to let go of, despite having been displaced by more functional tools.
And now my son plays bass and has grown up with most of my basses for as long as he can remember, so it's only natural that he also has some attachment to them and hopes to some day own a few (or all) of them.
