Anyone feel the same way?

In a moment of boredom I became weak and had to look at this forum... I dare not to look at the Basses forum too much, I always end up GAS'ing to much. Now I crave Rickenbacker's, Warwick's, Spectors and so many other basses and I can barely afford a Squier at the moment :p

THIS IS PAIN!! You guys are so lucky, and I'm really jealous, so watch out... :ninja:

Dude, keep your cash and play what you've got. I'm talking to my therapist about it... seriously. It's a problem. I actually used the words "free money" with her. I sell stuff, and call it free money, to buy more stuff... usually adding about $200 from my own pocket... just increasing the investment. Meanwhile I have 13k in dept to pay off... but I still don't regret the Ray that'll be here tomorrow, which I'll have to sell some stuff to make up for and won't be talking to her about tomorrow night.

I used to really get GAS on this forum, but it's not as pronounced now. There is a music store in town that I try to avoid because I always find good deals (I'm talking half price) there. Every time I go there, I either buy a bass or almost buy a bass. In fact I almost bought a new Yamaha BB615 for $300 a week and a half ago. I'm still tempted to get it if it's still there.

Sequence of thought:
1) I have one bass. My band will hopefully start gigging soon. I should get a backup bass...

2) Ah here's a cheap used something or other on CL/TB classifieds/Ebay for a hundred bucks...

3) Oh look here's a used Ibanez or Fender for $250 or $300. Those are $500 or $600 new, that would be a really good deal...

4) Oh look here, there's an MIA Fender/Warwick/upper-tier whatever for $600. THAT's a really good deal, those are $1000+ new!

5) Oh WOW, look HERE, this guy is selling a RICK for a mere $1200! THAT'S a REALLY good deal....

6) Check bank account balance.

7) Oh look, here's a guy selling a used SX for $80... I wonder how long the Mrs. will be mad at me if I get it...?

I am currently the proud owner of a solitary Washburn. Currently...

I feel your pain. I use the term "new money." i.e.- Me speaking to wife - "I won't be spending any new money on this bass, 'cause if you remember correctly, I sold a bunch of stuff on eBay last week and just need to add a little more cash to get this terrific deal ..." It's a disease. It's just a matter of time before I'll need to seek professional help. I'm glad I'm not alone on this.

Would you be so kind as to PM me the name of said music shop.....

I happen to be in Edmonton this weekend.....

LOL...that sequence (1, 2, 3, & 7) just described my very existence over the past few months! ;)

Ended up with a second used MIM Precision, but not three days later I ran across a used Squier Jazz for $100...it's the same color as one of my P's...would the wife notice? :smug:

I have had GAS for a while now, but am at a place where I am happy with what I have...mostly. I think in essence, you use what you like and with a little research and good sense, it'll all work out ok. Sometimes you wait for a long time for that one great deal. I waited almost two years until I found that one deal for my jazz. And it was a steal! I find the GC/MF buys are good if you can pay crap off within a year on the no-interest payments. They make good resale items. So now after about 3.9 years of staying patient, giving up going out to dinner so damn much, no movies, no frills, I am at a good place. Gigging regularly helps, too! Good equipment - not top of the line - good sound - pretty happy. And my g/f is still gonna marry me!! It sure helps that she's all for me getting the gear that I want, too!

I:

1) Have no girlfriend or wife to tell me no
2) Know enough about gear to know if it's a good deal. I only buy HOT deals now. Like, flip it for more if I want to kind of deals
3) might let GAS get to me, but I make sure each instrument I buy now, I buy for keeps
4) know almost exactly what I like and need now. It took a lot of time and a lot more money, but I found out because of GAS.

Basically, my setlist of instruments that I want or really like with checkmarks of what I have.

(X) Five string I play well on for days (Schecter CV-5)
(X) USA made P Bass (Highway 1 P)
(X) A US made Jazz (Carvin B4)
(X) Explorer (Buying a Gibson soon, selling my Ibanez Destroyer, and building an old Destroyer inspired fretless)
(X) Short scale for modding (Squier Bronco)
(X) Fretless (Carvin B5F)
(X) Upright (Shen SB80)
(X) Rickenbacker 4001 (on it's way to my parents')
( ) EBMM Musicman or Big Al
( ) Ibanez Prestige 5006E
( ) Unlined fretless custom from ???

you're 19. get a job, don't spend your money on cocaine, or heroin, or girls, or a car, or food, and you'll have some nice stuff.

What to do, what to do... New bass or the start of a life-long battle with drug addiction? Hmm, that is tough, gotta think this one through ;)

It's a pretty well used one that I'm paying $800 for. An '84 IIRC.

Holy moley, I could snort a lot of cocaine from a stripper's crack with that money! :P

Thought it would be pretty expensive (at least for me). I had a look at the Aria Pro II ZZB, it saw it for 200$ a while ago on eBay (or did I read something wrong?). I thought it would suck because of that price, but now I've seen some reviews on youtube and with a little work it doesn't sound that bad really.

I say it's "Not in Budget Money", "remember hon, I always make money on stuff I sell because I buy so cheap." That my friends is a flat out lie.

Musical stuff is a loosing proposition. Guns tend to make money but you have to hang out with a strange class of people.
