Anyone here used EMG active pickups with an Audere classic preamp?

I've used Audere classic preamps with passive pickups and had great success. One of my basses has active EMG's, though. Audere advertises that the classic can be used with active pickups, but has anyone here actually done this? If so, how did it work out?

Can't help but I've mated them with Fernandes active pickups. Follow the instructions (derp!) and you'll be fine. I'll recommend either the 3 band w/ mid-freq switch or 4 band.

There are capacitors that are included that go from the hot lead to reduce distortion. The pre works great with the EMGs. Detailed instructions are included but if you need help Dave can walk you through it.

Great! Here's a pic of the pickup cables that connect to the EMG's

It's my understanding that the hot wire (the white one, I assume) would connect to the capacitor and then the capacitor would connect to the preamp pickup wire (either the black/white or blue/white). The pickup ground (the black wire, I assume) would connect to cavity ground. Is all of that correct?

What happens to the red pickup power wire?

I also don't know at this point whether the EMG 40DC's that are in my bass have the modular connectors either since I haven't removed them from the bass. I don't see any modular connectors in the control cavity where the Tonepump Jr. preamp is located.

I have Audere preamps in my other two basses, so I'm very aware of how they sound, where I have no experience with the EMG BQC.

The red one is for the power to the pickup that will connect the red wire to the batterie make sure that you sheild the entire bass connect pick up cavitys to the rest of the bass and connect that to the ground on the out put jack. failure to do that will make a buzz noise. Follow the instructions to a tee and you will be fine. PS you will have to clip off those modular connectors good luck JD

Or, how would I connect the battery wire from each pickup to the battery?

Yep. Take a look at my previous pic (best to enlarge). Red "hot" originates from the battery box and spliced to (3) limbs: one for the preamp and one each for the pickups. The splice can be seen just below the "N" capacitor.

Thanks so much! I've been debating between the EMG BQC and a full LHZ preamp treatment. The full LHZ would run me almost $300 and I think I'd rather have low and high mid controls than the variable mid control on the BQC.

You like the way the Audere sounds with the Yamaha pickups?

Don't know anything about Yamaha pickups but I'd venture to say the Audere would function well with any pickup. High / low is my favorite....mid-freq switch comes in a close second.

Not a big fan of the variable / sweepable mids as my amps / peripherals cover that realm.

No black wire does not go to the cavity ground. Follow the instructions given by Audere. The grounding scheme is different.

The instructions say to connect the pickup grounds to cavity or to the gray/white wire (which connects to cavity).
