Anyone know where rock is still alive?

In my house. I have a very expensive test system to pick out good songs ... my 9 year old son and my 6 year old daughter ;~)

Seriously, sometime ago I was playing some Chicago stuff and I saw my son & daughter bopping around to the music, never heard the song before, but it made them move. This goes on all the time, but it was the first time I stopped to ponder about it.

Nashville has a growing rock scene. We used to go out and play gigs with acoustic singer types and crappy wanna be death metal bands. Now there are usually at least two other bands that don't suck. Check out Starshot Black on reverbnation and YouTube

It is cool I know a lot of country's especially out of reach of American media are really into rock because it's just reaching there. Many are like in the eighths but the Philippines have and are rock. I ask my friends what the local music is in the Phillipines sounds like. I was expecting the culture to have it's own sound like Latin, a lot of Asian and African music had it's own sounds scales and different instruments. Nope their national music is rock. My friends dad who named him after Bon Jovi apparently is a very conservative business man who you wouldn't peg liking all that rock n roll. But the majority all ages is a fan.Rock is a staple in Fillipino culture. Move there if you want to start a rock band if you get big children will be named after you.

When we played a gig my friend the singer and guitarist both fillipino had every fillipino in the area at our gigs. Whole family's not just twenty year olds like is, parents, kids, aunts, uncles. It was really cool. The singers brother skyped a portion of our gig to his mom and other family in the Phillipines. She was so proud she was crying. It's such a cool culture and me being the bass player for the band they treated me like family. Which they are very tight knit usually don't hang out with many people outside their culture to preserve it. Even though I couldn't speak their native tongue, I spoke their language: Rock.

Im married into a Filipino family.
Lots of rock acceptance there. And don't forget Arnel Pineda landed Steve Perrys job.
But then he had a meltdown. And here's why:
Filipinos need other Filipinos! It's cultural. In Hong Kong Filipinos spend one night a week taking over the city center, to gossip and giggle.
It's a cool culture, but they don't tolerate isolation well.

Heavy metal still rules Texas. Made me feel old when I went to the Iron Maiden concert in Houston. The Mexican American kids are rabid fans. No one sat down and every lyric was sung by all. It felt like a rock show, not metal though.

Not! There is metal in Texas, but way behind Country, Austin, and Red Dirt. Not trying to burst your bubble, man, but metal is about rusted out.
