OI! I just bought a P bass. But I'm also looking at getting a ridiculously pointy bass too.
I know what you mean. I won't buy a strat for the same reason.

I also have a dozen p-"styled" basses, and for tone sure...but for looks, even better because none of them needs or "requires" a pickguard
