I first his playing on Jerry Cantrell's Degredation Trip 1&2, his playing was damn good, I'd be interested in hearing him slap.

Uh.....how did you miss that? It was only reported in about every bass guitar related mag at the time.

Voivod was before and after (maybe even during) Ozzy.

Jason was basically kicked out of Ozzy by Zakk.
Apparently a roadie ended up taking the fall (not voluntarilly) with the authorities for some of Jason's....uh....."medications" (although I heard it was just weed). Zakk felt that it was cowardly of Jason to just let this happen and not have the balls to come forward so the roadie wouldn't take the blame.

The official story I heard was that Jason bowed out after it was clear that Ozzy was having issues and wasn't going to be touring with the band very much. Now, Ozzy is on tour in Ozzfest with Sabbath, and the "Ozzy/Zak" band is sitting idle, not making any money . . .

I don't know if Jason did ANY playing with Ozzy, but the original play was to have Voivod open for Ozzy. Jason would have had quite the workout.

That is good to know, I never understood why Jason left Ozzy's band. Even though by the interviews I read Mike Bordin wasn't too happy with Jason's playing.

Rob's an awesome player, I agre with the above statement that the majority of his talent would be wasted with Metallica, interested to see if his influence changes their sound and style at all.

Yeah, on their website they said that they have 25 songs ready for recording, so I'm hoping the new one is out soon.

Got any sources? I'm a big fan of Mike's playing and I'm curious to know what he thinks about Jason.

I think it was in a bass magazine,I don't recall which, it seemed like Jason was rushing the songs.

Yeah, in the bass player magazine with Jason and Ozzy on the front. Jason actually called himself out on that. Ozzy's music as of late is usually pretty behind the beat... and Mike Bordin's past music is behind the beat... and a lot of metallica is on top of the beat. But strangely not their recent stuff that Jason played on... hmmm.

Jason has always been like an excited child, so he's nervous I'm sure, and was playing a bit rushed. But I didn't hear anything about him continuing to do so.
