Anyone make your own cables?

Any kind (instrument or speaker or speakon or adapters...)
If so, any tips / suggestions for a newbie?

I'm relatively uneducated when it comes to this, but really wanna learn... I figured I'd start with cables, move on to effects pedals, then maybe on to a bass or guitbox if one of mine should decide not to work anymore.
