Which store? I lived in Miami for about 10 years, and worked at the (now gone) Carroll Music store and Ed's guitars...dunno if that one is still there; left Miami around '93.

"Strings" translates as "cords," not "chords," in Latin-based European languages. Make sense now? Strings roughly are cords are ropes are cables, etc. Machine translators sometimes go phonetic that way.

From some web searching, it seems the two words are pretty intertwined.The word with the meaning "pleasant simultaneously sounding tones" comes from a different source than the word meaning "strings, cords, or ropes," but was influenced by it.
