Anyone recognize this high frequency driver/horn? Older Mesa/Boogie road ready 2x10......

Hi guys!

Bought some gear I didn't really need and of course, it needs some work. I need a diaphragm or a new horn for my road ready 210. The horn is unmarked. Anyone know what I have here or what I need?

I don't recognize that part and don't recall a red phase plug. The throat dimensions look off to me also.

You can message me with the dimensions and I will look to see what might work. I may have something in my shop.

The horn housing is 4 - 1/4" in width, square. Screw holes are 3 - 7/16" along the side and 4 - 15/16" diagonally. It looks to me as if the Eminence BGH25-8 is likely the best fit. Here is the crossover stuff, I am guessing this has been worked on before.

Another couple of questions.....before I get there, what is the secret to putting the grill back in place while the rubber spacers and screws all align and don't fall out? If I wanted to refinish the handles, how do you get them out? They seem to have butyl or some other sealant holding them beyond screws.

Head is TBD. Ideally I would like to get a pedalboard mounted power amp and use a helix stomp or similar for preamp - it is too easy to get great tones digitally these days and I like the flexibility of clean hifi sounds (including using my future impact bass synth on), or dirt for bass and any other effect I might need in one box. But man that Bass 800D would sure be a killer match for this rig.

It's not that heavy. They have good casters, roll easily and when it is time to load the weight splits in half being two cabs. I am an out-of-shape 52 and it's honestly a nothingburger. No one would have ever had gigs before 2010 if they were afraid to move things. If I had stairs to deal with it would be a different story, but I don't. Now a 10 pounds plus bass I'd have to wear for 4hr is a non-starter though.

Ok, I looked at the information I have and I think what you may have is a prototype or very early production cabinet.

I do have replacement drivers in my service inventory, they are a genuine Foster/Fostex part #025H27 (pretty much everything today are knock-offs, which is why they are referred to as Foster type or Foster style).

The flange dimensions are 4-5/16" x 4-5/16", holes are 3-9/16" center to center and 5-1/16" on the diagonal.

Can you lay the cabinet on it's back, place the spaces center over the screw holes and lower the grill in place.

Maybe, it is going to be a beeotch though, especially without knocking the rubber pieces down the ports. The grill doesn't drop straight down due to some of the road case trim/hardware, very little room for error, you have to kind of shimmy it around to even get it past the edges with almost no clearance to the spacers. Not looking forward to it. I think I did this on a similar mesa cab years ago and had a hell of a time, this one is even worse with the road-ready stuff.

I appreciate the help!

The dimensions on that are slightly larger and I am not even sure I would have room to get the center rubber spacer in if it were even slightly bigger than the current one. I might be forced to try the eminence one since the dimensions are much closer to what I am measuring.

The other option, and one that some manufacturers do is to use a thin rat tail rasp and oblong the 4 holes. This goes back to the early days where there were a few manufacturers supplying a similar part... Hearald, Hepner, Foster/Fostex, etc.

If the Eminence part's a closer fit, it should work but it's quite different in how the diphragm and phase plug assembly installs, and well as the horn flair attachment. Double-check the diameter of the motor to be sure it fits through the hole.

Will do!

I ordered from Amazon so if it doesn't fit at all, it will go into my Amazon return pile and I will get ahold of you. The screw hole for the center grill screw actually touches the bottom of the horn as it is, so I don't think any larger at all will work. I will get ahold of you to figure something out if this one wont work.

Any recommendations on the correct/easiest way to re-install the grill and spacers?

PS, I think the new Bass 800D will pair amazingly with this and will be purchasing one soon.

On the Subway cabinets, the spacers sit onto the baffle, then the grill sets down on top of them. I've never assembled a Road Ready.

Maybe try wrapping some tape around the upper portion of the screws that will hold the spacer to the screws as you fit the grill in.
