Anyone still play a Modulus Sweetspot???

I used to own a Modulus Sweetspot 5 w/ quilt maple top, EMG soapbar, and EMG preamp. It was a super tight bass with excellent feel. I always wanted a different pickup in the bass though...bartolini...lane poor (oh yes!!!). Does anyone still play these as their main basses? Anyone have any pics of them they would be willing to post? Thanks all!

They are prety rare. I saw a guy playing one recently. Sounded pretty good. Like a StingRay 5, but more defined and with a better B-string.

I still remember this giveaway that Bass Player magazine had a few years ago with one of those in flame maple with that orange crush finish they have. Beautiful.

That is the exact model I had. It was gorgeous...I bought it used from Bass Emporium (I traded my '77 P-Bass for it...dumb idea) about 3 years ago. I then traded the Modulus to a guy here in Birmingham for his SR5 and some cash. Now the bass is who knows where...? I would love to get one back but with either the Bart or Lane Poor pup in it.

hey man, I play a Q6 sweet spot. It's been my main bass for 10 years now. I bought my 2nd year of college and I haven't been able to find anything I like better. I go back and forth with my VJ b/c I love the jazz sound, especially in the studio. But live, nothing is like the sweet spot. It does kind of have a stingray flavor, but definitely has it's own unique sound. Almost every sound guy I've worked with has really loved it's clarity. I played at a large church (5,000 seat auditorium) for 3 years and the FOH sound man said it was the best bass he'd heard and that he had no trouble with it sounding muddy.

I love it. I'm getting a Flea MM+J, so I hope I like that one as much.

That guy was me. I traded that bass to the dude at Tradingbasses for an '91 Alnico PU MM5 and cash. I remember he had some trouble selling it. Not very many SS fans out there I guess. Personally I much prefer the MM sound. I dig EMGs but I think a new pickup would have done wonders for that bass.

Thanks man. Also, in response to the original question. I do have a Bartolini in it. It's very warm, but clear. I've never heard a SS with an EMG, so I'm on the other side of the coin. If you want an idea of the tone, you can check out my myspace page. The first tune on there, Letting Go, was pulled right of the board, so the mix isn't great, but you can hear the bass pretty well.

I suppose mine sort of is. It's based off an SS and a Flea. As I could not get either at the time in lefty, I modified an old what seems to be from 89? (serial 89xxxx) Q5 into a single pickup. The Basslines MM works wonders with the 3-way Bart pre (usually flat) and the series parallel switch. The only thing I wish I'd done is move the pickup slightly closer to the neck for a little more lows. Otherwise, it's been the main and done a bunch of CD's to date. A real workhorse !! (not me, the bass ;-)

You guys have some amazing looking SS's !! If I could only get them to do a 34" SS lefty with a wood fingerboard, I'd use Modulus indefinately !!
